Thanks Andrew! Congratulations on your own looming milestone! 🥂

Thanks for the response. Like Perplexity, your tool correctly identified a cinema in Southampton but gave incorrect screening times - it said 6 & 6:50 when in reality they are 12:10 & 8:40.
Also thought that the top result in the "what are people saying" is an interesting response to the prompt! 😯

If it can't handle something this simple, how are we meant to trust it with anything?
Their own definition of what an answer engine is says it prevents the need for sifting through links, but then suggest you should as it isn't guaranteed to be accurate!

It then goes on to give me times of 2:10pm and 5:20pm for screenings. The latter of these would be perfect so I click through to the Picturehouse website...where I find that actually the screening times are 1:45pm and 7pm - absolutely useless information! 🤬

The response starts strongly, identifying Harbour Lights Picturehouse as a cinema in Southampton and giving me its location - great!
Then it begins the next paragraph with "For tonight, Monday, February 4, 2025..." - Today is TUESDAY 4th! 🤦 - very worrying if it can't even get the day right!

Made a start last night with Emilia Perez and...struggled. Really wanted to be able to support a film about the trans experience but it just didn't feel authentic, poorly written with a predictable plot & the musical element was completely wasted (awful songs & performances). Really disappointing

Thanks very much. I'll be heading down on the Monday morning as I'm only in Southampton so won't make the event on the Sunday night but I have marked that I'm a first-timer on my sign-up form. See you all there!

Exactly! I clicked on this article thinking "great, finally some research that backs up my position as a librarian and the importance of AI Literacy training" - which the results show. But then to take that and twist it to be "wind your neck in librarians, you're putting people off AI" is maddening!

They claim that the issue isn't ethics or capability but that knowing too much removes the "magic" of using AI - yes, because most of these tools are surface level gimmicks and once you delve below the surface you realise how ineffectual they are!
To me this is why AI Literacy is so important!

I completely agree with you on the issues with GenAI. Unfortunately though our students are using it anyway, so it's important we arm them with the critical skills to identify its shortcomings themselves.
Drop me DM if you like and I'd be happy to chat further and share my ideas 😊

I've been quietly working on a new approach to evaluating information for these very same reasons, encouraging students to not only assess the content but understand how the information has arrived at them, not just in terms of GenAI but also algorithms that are involved in other discovery methods

If you're feeling festive, generous and are able to do so why not join me in texting WOOLLY to 70050 to donate £5 to Save The Children (although you may want to follow up with a text of WOOLLYNO to opt out of receiving marketing calls.)

More importantly, does anyone have any recommendations of where I might visit for an interesting or different ice cream afterwards?
This may sound like an odd request given the weather but you may not know I'm the UK's foremost* "Ice Cream Tourist" so always looking to try something new

Under my jumper I was wearing my Frank Turner t-shirt bearing the lyrics of my favourite song of his, Photosynthesis:
🎵I won't sit down, I won't shut up, and most of all I won't grow up🎵
I don't manage to live up to those words all the time, but today feels like I've made a good effort 😄

Of the lovely comments in the chat & sent to me afterwards, I think my favourite has been this:
"Fantastic presentation (and a bit provocative!) - thanks Mike"
I certainly intended it to go against the grain and incite some important, if difficult, conversations so delighted that this came across

And now on board the LNER for the final leg of my #LILAC24 journey.
Looking forward to exploring Leeds a little this evening

Lovely little stroll through London from Waterloo to Leicester Square and a little ride on the tube to Kings Cross.
Leeds is on the board and train two of the day will follow shortly!
