James Hollis explains a 'meta-story' and a 'meta-complex'.

Sounds like you're at quite the threshold crossing, Angela.

Wherever there is a reaching down into innermost experience, into the nucleus of personality, most people are overcome by fright, and many run away.

Perhaps the greatest lesson the I Ching has taught me, in fifteen years of working with it, is the elegance of quietly withdrawing from a fruitless situation. It can be emphatially clear about when this is the case and it's always been right. I've had to break my own heart on more than one occasion.

Aren't they just? First time I've looked at them close-up [and smelled them]. Stunning.

Fabulous weather, so went out for a paddle on the canal. Still getting used to SUP [stand up paddleboarding], but it's a such a calm and peaceful way to be out in nature.

Yay, you bought it! 🥳
I've listened to this countless times down the years. A gentle, yet, quietly powerful listen.
Enjoy, my love! ☺️

[For any long-standing followers of this account who may be wondering what prompted this recent flurry of 'mother complex in relationship' posts, it was a dream. 😉 ]

I just wanted to see Max Richter perform 'Recomposed: Vivaldi—The Four Seasons' and then he later announced Tilda would be joining him to perform 'Voices'. Couldn't believe it.
At one point Swinton was just a few feet away from me in the field. How I resisted the urge to fangirl, I'll never know. 😅

Galland's telling of the Handless Maiden [I think it's her telling, anyway] has always stayed with me as an example of fierce compassion when, at one point, the crone refuses to help the struggling maiden. It's a tough lesson & took me years to learn not to buckle, but it's proved invaluable wisdom.

I'm not a parent, so my perspective on this is more from mothering 'son-partners' in relationships [what I used to do, but no more]. What really helped me was learning more about the Dark Feminine—Baba Yaga, Hecate, the Crone, etc—particularly China Galland's audio, 'The Power of the Dark Feminine'.

The chapter 'The Sacrifice of the Son' in Harding's book, 'Woman's Mysteries' is worth the price of admission alone. Invaluable reading for men and women to understand how they may unconsciously mother others or be trapped in childish or immature patterns, and how to move on.

The sex going south is one of the reasons I'm not sure I could ever live with a fella again. Far too hot-blooded for that!
But isn't it interesting that the unspoken assumption is the woman does the domestic tasks? Yeah, no thanks.

Von Franz! How funny! But also interesting. I've had dreams directly reference astrology [transits in my natal chart] and the I Ching. So although you may be going through it in your waking reality, the psyche is also pointing the way towards what will specifically help you. We'd be lost without it!

What a truly wonderful dream, Angela! A gem of a gift from the psyche. 🥰

One final note: a couple don't need to be married or have children for this dynamic to manifest. Many years ago, I caught myself playing 'mother-mate' to an ex and put a stop to my behaviour. Soon after, the relationship ended.
Will share a quote about this later this week.
