Not much gamedev going on today. Heading to the ren fest again. See y’all tomorrow

It's not pretty (yet,) but this is the level meant to introduce the "shortcut" (name pending) mechanic. Cyclops makes quick levels like this _really_ easy to build in #godotengine #solodev

#indiedev #gamedev #godotengine Day 17 Finished greyboxing the next level last night, so today is going to be writing up the new camera “shortcut” mechanic I mentioned and getting that wired up. I’ll post some screenshots of the new level later.

Now that the main thing to do is make levels, I’m feeling a little lost. Level designers block or something? How do y’all get inspiration for levels and puzzles when you feel blocked? #solodev #indiedev #godotengine

#indiedev #gamedev Day 16 Today i'm trying out a #godot plugin to help make level design a bit faster. I've been building the level in blender then importing it to godot, but it makes the design process feel slow. So i'm trying out github.com/blackears/cy... today while working on the 2nd level

#indiedev #gamedev Day 15 Whew, so i'm starting to get feedback. Today is going to be a bit of cleanup after the mad dash for the demo. Then I'm back to making up puzzles. I thought of a camera shorthcut mechanic that I'd like to build out this week to. But I'm happy with my progress :)

Just sent out the first few links to the first Camera Shy demo to some friends. :) So I was able to make a deliverable in about 2 weeks... I guess some things stick.

feels kind of nice to get out of my own head and really build this out to be ready for people. Got the lobby looking decent, but pretty dark too. #indiedev #gamedev #CameraShyGame

#indiedev #gamedev Day 14 Two weeks! Today is all about adding a bit of polish to the gameplay demo I’m sending to my friends tonight. Pretty exciting!! Last night I replaced the Godot icon with some windows 98-inspired icons I made on stream last night

Game Marketing Tip Target 60–90 second devlogs. Mid-length videos often get the highest watch. #indiedev #solodev #gamedev #gamedev #solodev #indiedev

DEPTHSEEKER - a Stealth based Heist Game Our first attempt at a proper trailer! What do you think? Any feedback is welcome :) #indiedev #gamedev #lowpoly #godot #gaming #TrailerTuesday #DEPTHSEEKER youtu.be/lv59sabmUrk

Hey all. Going to be doing some #indiedev on twitch for a while tonight. Mainly working on getting the desktop UI to look good and windows 98-esque. www.twitch.tv/the_benbot

You ever go back and look at code you wrote a few weeks ago and go like "What was I even thinking? why did I even do it like this? How did I even come up with nonsense like this?" Anyway, I just rebuilt the hud system for Camera Shy. Each camera had it's own hud for some reason #solodev #indiedev

#indie #gamedev Day 13 Hey all, Today is pretty much a continuation of yesterday. Improving the UI a bit and getting some basic lighting in. I have an idea for displaying dialogue above characters, but w/o the vhs distortion and I might stream me building that later on.

#indiedev #gamedev Day 12 More first level polish. Today I want to get the reception desk computer UI improved. Button hover states, better pictures than the Godot logo, etc and do an initial lighting pass. The goal is to get some friends and family trying out the level on Tuesday.

Not doing much game dev today. Doing a belated Valentine’s Day at the local renaissance festival.

I realized that I haven't introduced us yet! #FollowFriday We are developing a low poly dungeon heist game It's based on fun exploration, unique creatures and a climactic escape phase! #Creatures #Heistgame #Stealthgame #Exploration #Looting #Collectables #Pixelart We are preparing a public demo!

24 hours after launch, here are some Dawnfolk numbers! ⭐ 56 reviews (98% positive) → Very Positive 💰 2,795 copies sold 📃 42,937 outstanding wishlists 🕹️ 140 players in-game right now Thank you all for the amazing support! ❤️ #gamedev #indiedev

#indiedev #gamedev Day 11 Progress is coming on this lobby level. I keep realizing small things that need to change along the way, sicne I have a clearer idea of the player's path throug it. It's playable now, but there's no direction for the player. So today is all about adding that in.

#indiedev #gamedev As i keep building out this first level, I realized that I wanted characters to talk to give hints and context to the puzzles, so last night I added a little hovering speech bilboard

#indiedev #gamedev day 10 Double digits! The big thing now is figuring out how to place cameras behind doors, so that you can get to them when the door opens. I think I need to change the layout of one of the rooms so that the camera is closer to the door once the door is open.

Another day down! The lobby level is coming together. Here's a small demo of the virtual desktop I've been putting together over the past few days. Big issue right now is how to _hide_ cameras initially while still making them jumpable later on. But so far, I'm feeling good. #indiedev #gamedev

So haven't been feeling great today, but I learned a lot about puzzle design. I took another pass at my lobby level and I feel better about it. I worry it's a little too short and too simple for people to test, but I think I just gotta get over that.

Question for other #indiedev folk out there When you build levels, do you usually have a toolbox of generic pieces you lay out or are your levels more bespoke? Do they have scripts that are only ever used once? Coming from enterprise software land that feels really bad. Maybe games are different.

Another tricky #gamedev / #indiedev thing is how to allocate your time. I'm a programmer, by trade, so i feel like my time is best used writing code and building out mechanics. BUT I've been spending some time today doing another pass on my design doc... and maybe i should do this more 😅

Oh that was also my 100th post on #bsky That's kinda neat

#indiedev #gamedev Day 9 Yesterday I got the virtual desktop made and wired up! Today I'm going to spend some time researching puzzle design. I found a few good videos and a good book on the subject (thanks @bryanna027.bsky.social) Then I'll take another pass at my lobby puzzle.

My game releases in 24 hours. I’m losing my mind. Hype, terror, excitement. It's all hitting at once. Send help.🤯 #gamedev #indiegame
