Wow!
Thank you so much. I'll try and keep all that in mind while building out this next level.... where's the drama 🤔

I guess I could start by figuring out the kinds of “aha” moments I thing a player would have given the mechanics and work backwards 🤔

Okay yeah this is much faster than going from blender to Godot for greyboxing

#indie #gamedev Day 13
Hey all, Today is pretty much a continuation of yesterday.
Improving the UI a bit and getting some basic lighting in.
I have an idea for displaying dialogue above characters, but w/o the vhs distortion and I might stream me building that later on.

I feel the same except the dog is me saying “do you want to hire me?”

More first level polish.
Today I want to get the reception desk computer UI improved.
Button hover states, better pictures than the Godot logo, etc and do an initial lighting pass.
The goal is to get some friends and family trying out the level on Tuesday.

Progress is coming on this lobby level. I keep realizing small things that need to change along the way, sicne I have a clearer idea of the player's path throug it.
It's playable now, but there's no direction for the player. So today is all about adding that in.

It’s very cute!
I’m a sucker for city builders too. Great job!

#indiedev #gamedev day 10 Double digits!
The big thing now is figuring out how to place cameras behind doors, so that you can get to them when the door opens.
I think I need to change the layout of one of the rooms so that the camera is closer to the door once the door is open.

Broken is also pretty bad too, but you can fix broken most of the time.
How to you fix forgettable?

Every obsidian game is just “ok” lol
They’re so consistent

Arguably, “not memorable” is the most damming comment you can give a game.

Can't trust the company behind it at all.
That's about it though... Maybe it doesn't have great support for lower end devices.

Not really. Maybe in the AAA space where the budgets are way too big for any reasonable team to make a return on.
But for indies, if you can keep costs and scope down I think we're in a really good space.
The sub $10 range on steam seems to be the sweet spot. People will drop <$10 on a game just bc

Yep!
Godot is actually backed by a whole foundation (the Godot foundation) which funds development.
It also has hit that critical mass of users and contributors that causes a project to live on forever, pretty much.
IMO most of the internals are also very understandable, once you get used to C++

#indiedev #gamedev Day 9
Yesterday I got the virtual desktop made and wired up!
Today I'm going to spend some time researching puzzle design. I found a few good videos and a good book on the subject (thanks @bryanna027.bsky.social)
Then I'll take another pass at my lobby puzzle.

Mostly, yeah.
When you interact with some computers there’s a little fake desktop with icons which do things like unlock doors and show little narrative bits.
