NEW for @latimes.com: El Camino Real won the @CIFLACS Open Division Boys’ Soccer title thanks to Coto Bladdimir’s overtime heroics, while Granada Hills won the Girls’ Soccer title thanks to the heroics of another defender: Illiana Velazco. Read here: www.latimes.com/sports/highs...

I’ll be covering the City Section Open Division soccer finals tonight at Los Angeles Valley College for @latimes.com. I will be at Pasadena City College on Saturday to cover the City Section Open Division girl’s basketball final and the City Section D1 boy’s basketball final.

The Trump administration terminates funding for polio, HIV, malaria and nutrition programs around the world. “People will die,” said Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi of the African Population and Health Research Center, “but we will never know, because even the programs to count the dead are cut.”

The destruction of radio baseball (by some teams like the Athletics and Angels) has been a travesty to see happen.

I'm just two months away from graduating from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism with my master's degree in journalism. That means I am officially entering the job search! 🧵(1/4)

Episode 7 of #Paradise. Wow. Insane television.

New #Survivor tonight. Chills.

‼️ Professional news ✍️ I’ll be joining @latimes.com in an official capacity as its sports section spring intern starting March 24. Writing for my hometown paper has already meant the world to me and this opportunity is something I won’t take for granted. www.latimes.com/california/s...

Frame it? I think so.

NEW for @latimes.com: Janelle McDonald coached a teen in club gymnastics who showcased “power and grace.” Friday night, now coaching her in blue and gold, that same gymnast emerged for No. 5 UCLA gymnastics. Say hello to freshman Mika Webster-Longin. www.latimes.com/sports/ucla/...

New information! Asked Janelle McDonald about being proud (referenced her reactions to routines) of Mika Webster-Longin and her gymnastics tonight. Janelle said Mika was one of the club gymnasts she used to train back in Northern California. Will be a part of the story to come.

Story to come for @latimes.com.

MEET FINAL No. 5 UCLA: 197.675 No. 25 Penn State: 195.450 UCLA's best home score of the season and Penn State's worst away score of the season (they have a worse home score than tonight's final tally). Jordan Chiles wins the all-around with a 39.600.

Mika Webster-Longin with certainly her best routine as a Bruin on floor so far. A career-high 9.900. She's become a lot more controlled on every event and emerging at the right time for the Bruins.

After three rotations: No. 5 UCLA: 148.125 No. 25 Penn State: 146.500 The Nittany Lions have yet to score 49 or more in a rotation and have never threatened to stay close with the Bruins in this one.

Malabuyo scores a team-low 9.825 and UCLA gets a 49.450 on beam. Not their best this season, .175 off of it, but another solid rotation coach by Lacy Dagen.

Alipio gets a 9.875.

I saw a small wobble on Ciena Alipio's routine, but scores on beam are running high tonight. Could be a big score.

She ties her season-and-career-high with a 9.900.

Brooklyn Moors may have a new career-high on beam, we'll see.

Chae Campbell ties her season-high with a 9.90 on beam.

She gets about around where she's been at on beam. 9.85.

Jordan Chiles looked good on beam as well, a small balance check, but besides that executed on her routine and her dismount.

Lee gets a deserved 9.925, tying her season high.

A rarity for Emily Lee to just be in one event, but she is still "Leadoff Lee" for a reason. A stellar opening bars routine for the UCLA senior.

After two rotations: No. 5 UCLA: 98.675 No. 25 Penn State: 97.675

Jordan Chiles has sticky feet as well. She's always on 10 watch, but I believe I've seen better, cleaner routines from her on the event. She goes 9.975 -- still great, still Jordan. UCLA goes 49.575 on bars, its season-high on the event

Frida Esparza gets a 9.975, a career-high. Not so far off from Pauley Pavilion glory, but a guitar performance and that bars routine oughta count for something.

Perfect 10 watch.

From electric guitar to bars, it's Frida Esparza's turn.

Macy McGowan goes 9.85.

Emma Malabuyo gets a 9.900 after sticking her dismount, but not getting fully straight on her handstands. It's a career-high. First score tonight I don't feel fully describes the routine.

She gets a 9.825.

Mika Webster-Longin hops back on her dismount, but her teammates love the routine. Again, solid handstands. Won't be as high as Campbell's score, but another good routine from the frosh.

Chae Campbell jumps up in down in glee -- and for good reason. One of her better routines on the apparatus, multiple solid handstands + a solid dismount (couldn't see hop or no hop). 9.875, a season high for the grad student.

After one rotation: No. 5 UCLA: 49.100 No. 25 Penn State: 48.825

The five 10.0 start values are huge for potential, but the Bruins have yet to bring in consistent week-to-week scores on the event. Webster-Longin a highlight.

Macy McGowan goes 4.8 to get a 49.100 on vault overall for UCLA, tying its second-lowest score on the event this season. The Bruins will need to make improvements here on the way to April -- solidifying the small details.

Jordan Chiles' vault matches Chae Campbell's with a 9.825. Vault remains the Bruins' weak spot as the season trails on.

Mika Webster-Longin goes 9.85, a career-high (video on X), while Chae Campbell goes 9.825.

9.8.
