I remember the grind of balancing college with passion projects all too well!

Nice to see you here - and well done on the illustration!

I think the Earl’s museum is easily the biggest casualty that resulted from Mattel’s change in direction. If they’d let the series continue as it was, the writing team could’ve made it such an impactful location.

It was a lot of fun! I had actually done the narration at @brightonterrier.bsky.social’s request, long before the idea of the story becoming a video was a thought! It was a great time - I love voicing Percy!

I’m actually not sure - the post you’re replying to is just a joke I was making!

This aesthetic is so lovely. I would love to see more of 70s Sodor from you!

You know, it’s funny, because I’ve always liked James, but never considered him a favourite character - and yet, he probably crops up in my writing more frequently than any other character! He’s just a lot of fun to use in various situations!

Harold has never looked more “do you have games on your phone” in his life, and I love it. Well done!

This is not to shit on TheUnluckyTug - he’s a human who can have his thoughts on TATMR and Britt’s contributions to the series. These are just MY thoughts after sitting with the discourse for the last little while.

The “appeal” of Thomas is something that can take so many forms. I don’t understand how people can like the books/show and NOT take interest in real railways - but they do! That’s what makes the CHARACTERS special - not whether there are magic buffers or Rule 55s.

She loved them when she first discovered them; she loved them as she brought them to life; she loved them after she’d been unseated and lost her role in the show’s creation; and she loved them right up to her final moments.

People have been moaning about TATMR “disgracing” Awdry for ages - and it’s never going to change. That’s fine - it doesn’t do much for me these days, though it holds a special place in my heart. Regardless of its reputation, you cannot say Britt didn’t understand and love the characters.

Britt had an insurmountable task of trying to merge these two worlds - Shining Time & Thomas - that had only had loose connections on TV. Now, she had to properly merge them - and on the big screen, too!
comment in response to post
That’s why the characters are still so much fun in TATMR - because Britt understood what made people like them! Is TATMR itself in line with the original spirit of the books? Perhaps not - but that doesn’t mean she didn’t understand the appeal of the characters and world.

She understood it from the Awdry perspective - that trains in and of themselves have a natural appeal. She also understood that it’s not JUST appealing because it adheres to railway practices - it’s because the characters themselves are so captivating.

Of COURSE she understood it. You don’t mortgage your house to bring something to life if you don’t “understand” what makes it special. The thing is, Britt had MULTIPLE understandings of it.

Probably 4 or 5!

All very valid points - I’m just very excited to write for the one new character, and wishing I could do that before everything else - but the process must be trusted!

I’m wondering if that would be easier at this point in time. 😂

The thumbnail is Duke is a static filter on top and bold red text that says, “Left in a SHED?!”

Paxton becoming an actual character was one of the best things to come out of the CGI era.

Walter looks WAY too happy - must be an imposter 😂

I did have a go at some several years ago, but they’re long since abandoned - it’s an era that just doesn’t appeal to me all that much.

Go for it!

Rusty from the SR, Wilfred from the CFR, and Bert from the Arlesdale!

I definitely had to be patient when writing the “Topham Hatt’s Engine” stories - they didn’t come as easily, and I had to work for them!

The thing is, Bloomer is an interloper on his Branch Line, and those stories take place when Thomas is on a high after his visit to the NRM!

I do have some plans for them, but I won’t reveal them just yet!

Nah, I like to think only the dossiers were lost in that.

I’ve said it before, but I just adore the aesthetic of your models. The way you style the faces, the choice of paints, the weathering - it’s just perfect!
