If transgender service members don't voluntarily agree to resign, they'll be forced by the Defense Department to repay the signing bonuses they received at enlistment. Not only will they be fired, they'll be punished with thousands of dollars in debt. All for attempting to serve their country.

The bill here. It not only removed gender identity protections, it also removes all legal recognition of trans people from the law. www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/...

7. Iowa activist Jennifer Rose also provided real-time coverage on BlueSky, documenting statements from lawmakers during the House and Senate hearings. She reported that after the House vote concluded, protesters erupted in a mass shout of "NO" and called Republicans Nazis. bsky.app/profile/jenn...

I don't mean that I think parents have no place or that they should stop advocating for their children I just think that they should be careful not to end up in a position like Brianna's mother did here

what actually led to Brianna's murder. The best case here is that she is being used as a mouthpiece by the incredibly transmisogynistic guardian to victim blame her own daughter. cis parents may have more insight into trans issues than other cis people but they really can't stand in for us

and I was given some really ableist explanations as to why this wouldn't happen and I won't repeat them here but it's clear that to some extent it actually does happen and this is one really horrible example of it. Brianna's mother is betraying her because she either doesn't understand or care about

Oof, even that extract is a tough read. Because of course girls struggling with body image, sexuality, and objectification only turned up with the internet. Zero issues beforehand. Unhelpful at best for her to focus on the common struggles and not acknowledge the thing Brianna was targeted for.

No one wants go go against the words of a grieving mother but i will. Brianna’s death is larger than one family and not some random incident separate from politics it was deeply political.

This was actually such an upsetting read. Brianna Ghey has become emblematic for our community’s persecution and the mother is actively muddling anything the wider public might have learned from this

None of this is relevant at all. AT ALL. It just makes your daughter look bad and insinuates she brought it on herself. The dangerous thing is that Esther is now herself participating in the mealy mouthed transphobia of the Guardian that contributed to her daughter’s murder.

TW eating disorder, self harm, victim blaming I feel for Esther but with this campaign all she is doing is deflecting from the rampant transphobia that killed her daughter and blaming it seemingly on being online too much just what the hell
comment in response to post
Every mention of the hate crime angle gets quickly brushed off to focus on how scary online is. I think it does a great disservice to her daughter to go on and on about the damaging behaviour she engaged in online. Whats the point? All it does is victim blaming its entirely irrelevant to her death
comment in response to post
I do not understand Esther Ghey’s angle of going on about the dangers of online when it was transphobia that killed her daughter. You have the mic and This is what you think is the important thing for people to learn?

Huh. So, Jeff, "personal liberties" includes a woman's right to choose, right? And the right of a trans person to live their truth without fear and without interference, right? Oh, and gay peeps can marry, work, have children, and live without fear as well, yes? Right, Jeff? Jeff?

4. Independent journalist Mady Castigan first reported that the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) removed all mentions of LGBTQ+ individuals. Around the same time, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) announced plans to erase all references to trans people.

Transphobia is a psyop 10 years ago trans people were peacefully, living their best lives. Nobody cared. Now the right claims trans people threaten women and children (without any evidence) and millions of Americans are like “yeah it’s just common sense!” Fucking gullible morons

When women die because they can’t get abortions, it’s “about children.” When children die because their parents won’t give them vaccines, it’s “about liberty and personal choice.” When trans people die because they can’t get surgery, it’s “about morality.” IT’S A CULT.

Normies could not wrap their mind around the attack on trans women in sports was a way to open a door to eventually invalidate trans existence. Our fascists don’t want women in the military either. The army can’t make quotas w/o them. Next your sons will be forced to fight for this evil regime.

So, that's where the backdoor comes in. By ostensibly tying it to sports, they are claiming the "gain" is winning a sports competition that they claim you will not be eligible to participate in. Yes it's a stretch, but all that matters to them is some reason to claim being trans is fraud.

We're being banned from the military. Banned from bathrooms. Banned from having our documentation. Fired from jobs. Purged from government. Fucking help us.

1—the DNC took sarah mcbride, who ran in 2024 & *won* to become the first out trans congressperson, & instead of letting her speak from the big stage (she spoke in 2016!), they gave her a monday noon caucus with drag queens. trans folks & drag artists aren’t the same; conflating us doesn’t help.🧵

"why is a sports ban so bad? isn’t this is only going to ban a few dozen people? aren't there other hills to die on?"

assuming you're asking that in good faith i would invite you to explore this article by @katelynburns.com. 🧵

senate dems left the filibuster intact last term. that means the GOP needs 7 dem yes votes + the full GOP to advance this to trump.

*we* only need 41 total votes—a combination of any of the 47 dems & any GOP defector—to keep this from becoming a hard-to-reverse law. please call. thank you. 💜🏳️‍⚧️

in that piece above, katelyn explains that "making democrats look bad by defending trans women—or look bad by not defending trans women—isn't republicans' goal…the goal of targeting trans women in sports...is to create a federal law that declares trans women are men." she was right. look. 🧵
