You have to hope that someone like Tagle gets the gig this time because if it's not a continuity Pope it's going to be someone a million times worse for the LGBTQIA+ community. That this is the best case scenario speaks volumes for Catholicism.

My opinion is he was good... *FOR A POPE*. It's a very low bar, although somehow still too high for most Republicans. The only hope is they don't vote in someone ten times worse.

Such a shame their co-leader is a coward and refused to answer questions on trans rights.

This is fully on the road to a eugenics programme.

It was on a public Facebook post so I don't see any need to block out any names. They knew what they were doing.

Nah he's gonna sign an EO declaring it a US territory, calling it Planet Trump and assigning SpaceX to head up exploration attempts.

I don't think we can draw any conclusions without more evidence, and even then getting hard evidence would require sending drones to the planet. We don't have the technology to find out within the next few million years though.

So basically saying "shut up or we'll let them kill you next time"

American libertarianism is just stealing and repurposing a left wing term to cover their own authoritarian tendencies. European libertarianism is older than the US and was synonymous with anarcho-communism. But whoever heard of the far right appropriating leftist terms to be more marketable?

They'll use the same defence the UK Conservatives used to strip Shamima Begum of her citizenship - if the individual has even tenuous eligibility for a passport elsewhere, they'll say "you're no longer a US citizen, go get a passport from over there and stay there".

As opposed to the guy who literally had Elon Musk going out and buying votes for him?

Gonna be claiming the election was rigged. I mean, yeah it was - by him. Unsuccessfully, I may add.

They better have already cashed their cheques as Elon will be cancelling them as we speak

Everything sucks but the people we don't like are having it worse so it's worth it. The American mentality in a nutshell.

I think there's at least one other Dem senator that's prepared to step in to help the filibuster if needed

I think this is where Hollywood under the maga regime is heading. It's a new mccarthyism.
comment in response to post
Yeah somehow we doubt that after the last thing Dems vowed to "oppose every step of the way"

So... how are they gonna spin this to say it's Gaza's fault the ceasefire was violated?

Still blame him. Elmo claimed to be investigating a group "currently being funded" by two people who are already dead - one last year, one in 2019. Also Soros. Nothing to do with the fact all 3 are/were Jewish, of course...

In a world of Chris O'Dowds and Richard Ayoades, be a Matt Berry.

DEI hire. Unqualified and just there because of who he is, not what he knows.

In that sense, yes it's made it clear the US is no longer a trustworthy ally. Mission failed successfully? I dunno.

His immediate dismissal of the AfD in that statement - not mentioning them once - is also telling.

Give it a week, once Trump learns that Merz doesn't like him back he'll be pretending he doesn't know who he is and that he never said anything nice about him. The CDU/CSU may be conservative by European standards but are centrist or even centre-left when adjusted for American standards.

I can't be the only one enjoying the juxtaposition of these jerk claiming "I'm bringing hell with me [to Boston]" and "POPE CONTINUES TO BE ALERT".

Remember when MAGA would keep spouting conspiracies about the "Deep State"? What do you call an unelected shadow government pulling all the strings in the background with no accountability?

yikes. Yeah I don't use X for anything but a very niche set of sports accounts that haven't yet migrated to BlueSky, so didn't see that.

Unfortunately haven't been able to find a verifiable source for this quote apart from this "fact check" page on Facebook, which, as we all know, no longer has actual fact checking. So as much as I dislike Thornberry for legitimate reasons, this isn't going to be one unless I find a legit source.
