I realized it even more once I moved. My propensity to just buy “stuff” completely dropped once I moved here. I rarely ever online shop and the majority of the things I buy are necessities now. I don’t have that overwhelming urge to just buy needless stuff and I’m grateful for it.

USA is so invested in consumerism, that quality is less important than marketing. We see it in "prestige" items that aren't actually better quality, but the marketing says YOU are better for using/owning it. We care more about marketing than any tangible quality. And THAT is how the orange man won
