Is this the future? Are we going to see more issues like this?

All been sorted since.

Easy no-cook dinners for the heat this week: Monday: Cornetto Tuesday: Magnum Wednesday: Solero Thursday: Calippo Friday: Viennetta

#MondayMotivation Knowing the meaning of Gaelic place names can support understanding of topography while exploring Scotland. Eas meaning Waterfall is once such word common in place names.

Mike Love is being interviewed on Craig Charles' show this afternoon. #popcorn

Wikipedia has a list of ‘Lamest Edit Wars’ that includes such disputes as ‘Is Limp Bizkit a nu metal/rapcore or rapcore/nu metal band?’, ‘Is it Star Trek into or Into Darkness?’, and ‘Should we say that economist Guy Standing is sitting in his photo?’. bit.ly/39qXtcu

A Goosander chick riding on its mother's back taken by Freddie Matthews is today's winning Photo of the Week:

Love this screen grab. Hope all the journalists caught this too.

My mom left an eviction notice for the carpenter bees burrowing into our porch

UCL are going back to all in person exams. There is no other solution to this problem currently available.

For months, in Hooley in Surrey, there's been a roadside billboard with 'WE NEED YOUR ART' spraypainted on it, and a date underneath. The other day, someone added a massive 'F' in front of 'ART'. Little things like this give me faint glimmers of hope in the British people.

One of the best bluesky usernames I've seen.

Something to help with the Mondayness

Three years ago I got involved in a week long twitter spat with Katherine after pointing out that she had misattributed lines from a Budweiser beer commercial to Winston Churchill. Wouldn't have been the end of days if it hadn't been written on the walls of her school. Not a renowned fact checker.

This is the second time this woman (“Britain’s strictest headteacher”) has claimed there’s a secret school in London she won’t name that has replaced Shakespeare with me. It’s complete bullshit of course but why’s she so obsessed with me

📢 Important Notice: RTS Electricity Meters Being Switched Off – Deadline 30 June 2025 Some homes in Leith use Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) meters to manage night-time heating. This technology, used in Economy 7/10 tariffs and heat systems, is being switched off.

Today marks nine years since Jo Cox was assassinated by a far-right extremist, a terrible loss to those who knew and loved her and to politics. Zero lessons were learned though and the far-right continues to be pandered to. With more political assassinations in the US it all feels too familiar.

Everyone should read this.

Tremendous work.

Happy Bloomsday to all who celebrate

Not again...

My current favourite track from the new Half Man Half Biscuit album is the darkly hilarious Falmouth Electrics which features a man who, made redundant, buys, then dramatically falls out with, a ventriloquist's dummy who looks like Bauhaus' Peter Murphy. I mean, obviously it does.

Morning

Blaise Metreweli, our first entirely fictitious [female] spy chief. '5,587,209th most common surname in the world' And that mugshot looks totally AI generated.

If you haven't listened to the echolocation episode of R4's 'In Our Time', please do (about 5 years old now). It will blow your mind, I promise.

Leafing through the Scottish National Dictionary and I think ‘scroosh’ really needs to make a comeback…

Fred Leist composed this work one morning at 2am in 1942 overlooking the sea in Cornwall. He captures a moment when the world seems to be simplifying itself into light and shadow, losing substance and becoming dreamlike.

What’s your sign

He (Harris) was usually to be found sitting outside the Coal Hole pub next to the Savoy Hotel, so the confusion is understandable.
