Halfway through this I had the nightmare vision of the future, where publishers will charge daily tiered rates for the week before release day and you can pay, oh lets say $20 per day to play the latest COD "early".

I am done with Honkai Star Rail now, I think. The new world they added is aesthetically appealing but the storytelling is only marginally improved from Penacony, and the late-game combat is just devoid of good ideas. The art remains the best thing about HSR.

Level 1 Demon Lord and One Room Hero (2023) is probably one of the funnier things I've watched in a while. Definitely worth a look if you need a good, juvenile laugh.

Hello, your friendly local Heaven Burns Red crank here to talk about how good the voice work is in this game. It's at least half visual novel so it really hangs on the characterizations, and the VA just absolutely makes the characters "real" in a way that is rare across media.

Azur Lane. Oops! All Spandrels : The videogame

I recently realized what an apt comparison Napoleon is for Trump and how he behaves. He is absolutely itching to name a direct relative the Viceroy of Canada, you know it and I know it.

The other thing about watching lots of Anime is that it's a negative example of the value of representation : there are vast swathes of especially YA-focused media that just have no queer characters at all, or stuff that is purely titillation for the male gaze. It gets wearing.

Al Green, Jasmine Crockett, AOC are all far more representative of who "Democrats" are nationally than Gavin Newsom or Mark Warner, and if you take "Gavin Newsom" as an avatar for "Democrats" there's some very particular prejudices being reproduced there. JB Pritzker too, sad to say.

Find it very funny that people are mad about Veilguard being on PS Plus, when it's now fully normal for publishers to ask half again the price of the game to play it less than a week early. "Consumer discourse" on games is so wildly inconsistent I hope developers tune it all out.

I don't think it gets acknowledged enough what an accomplishment it is that we're so close to gender parity in educational attainment. To have gone from "girls don't need to college" to relative overrepresentation in a couple generations is really worth celebrating - and shows what's possible.

You know what's a good band? The Dirty Projectors. Good band.

Mob Psycho 100 (2016) - Wow, don't know how I had missed this one for so long but it is just great. Another one that really gives you the line and overall look of the manga. A great sense of humor in the storytelling too.

Ooh I hadn't noticed GOG is here. Great stuff and really cool to see DinoCrisis, again.

The Eminence in Shadow (2022) was recommended to me as a self-aware version of the ubiquitous SAO clones, and it is definitely a lot of fun if you can enjoy the satirical aspects of it. I've really been liking these works that mash up existing tropes and use them for comedic purposes, of late.

alright, we're gonna kick this series off with a fucking bang. my first story in the DOGE IS FOUR LETTERS series comes from nate brought, director of the executive secretariat at the national institutes of health, and you're going to want to hear what he has to say.

Ender Lilies (2021) was a really solid implementation of the Metroidvania design pattern and the art and vibe were both lovely. Ender Magnolia looks like it picks up where that one left off, and I'm excited to get to play it when I have time.

The things with firing all the probationary employees is, most importantly, a tragedy for the employees and their workplaces. But it's also a real tell for just how dumb the whole DOGE plan is - it's the only category of people they can just fire, so they do. Are they important? Doesn't matter.

Every one of these people signing up to work with Trump is like the new henchman in an action movie, whose first job is to go kill the last henchman.

Confirming Gabbard and RFK is the clearest marker yet that the "Republican party" as we knew it is gone ; going forward it seems likely to be a kind of uneasy condominium of various hucksters, feeding off the US media landscape and advancing their one common agenda: corruption.

I've been thinking, relative to both gacha games and the whole "enshittification" discussion - we all now need to just be more conscious consumers about everything, all the time. Everything is geared to extract maximum value from every interaction and you must constantly work the systems.

This video/essay is great, and the whole thread of responses has a lot of great observations.
