I mean it was a smart move for mass appeal for sure - look at how successful it's been. It's just not for me.
The idea of it being compared to Soulslike games just makes me tilted, idk why lol. The idea of a Soulslike game having a QTE makes me die a little inside.
Sorry I'm just grumpy today!

I just find the trope they are using to "revitalize turn based combat" to be a legacy mechanic and frustrating. They could have done so much more than simply add QTEs to turn based combat. Super Mario RPG did this almost 30 years ago.

Yeah they've been back for a bit. I think some people just equate Squenix to JUST FF and that's their loss.

I know what you mean about Game Preview / Early Access. I feel the same. I kind of don't want to play too much more, because I don't want to spoil the launch of 1.0. It's a weird give and take with EA/Game Preview.

Not run based per se, just mission based. You enter zones via the hexes on the world map, which you unlock as you go. There seems to be a main quest/story which takes you into these zones as well.

It's *Insert Beat-Em-Up You Played as Kid* mixed with Guild Wars and I think it could be onto something. It seems rough in a few spots, like UX art and design, but I'm keeping it installed. The gameplay loop is kind of addicting because they reward you often with loot, giving me a dopamine hit lol.

Thanks buddy. So far, so good -- knocking those hours out.

Expedition 33 is unquestionably efficiently made and AAA development also has a ton of bloat. This game also had access to resources and budgets that many indie games could not fathom. There's a ton of money behind Kepler Interactive, including NetEase!

I appreciate your hard line you have drawn on this subject. I respect that.

Maybe one of my favorite openings to a game. SO many feels.

I had no clue it was the Banner Saga devs. Interesting.
It seems built for co-op and I'm a lone wolf gamer, so we'll see how much it clicks with me - but I love the design and style of it.

Agreed. I'm jealous of the people that are enjoying the game as a whole - I wish I could! The story had me enthralled and I want/wanted to see what happens in regards to the end of Act 1...there has to be more to that...

I feel exactly the same way. I really want to keep going but the combat is not my cup of tea, to put it nicely.

Iβve considered starting over or just respeccing all of my characters and their stats to an OP build. Iβll probably try a respec before starting over.

The combat balance is my gripe with the game for sure. It shouldnβt be this hard on Story. Iβd go as far as to say you shouldnβt have fail states on Story. I want the story, not the frustrating combat! lol
Tbf the combat can be fun, when itβs not unapologetically kicking your ass.

I haven't done it in at least a year as well. There was a big update lol

I'm running updates on my controller just in case that was it

The combat in the remakes is pretty similar to FFXII honestly. It's a hybrid turn based / action combat. You can pause and choose actions, but it's rolling otherwise.
There's a system similar to the Gambit system, but not as involved I'd say.

I don't have v-sync on, so I'm not sure what would be causing the latency unless it's just a bug on PC.
comment in response to
post
Dodges have a wider window than parries, but even on Story...it feels like there is latency. I'm starting to think I have input latency because it just doesn't feel right most of the time. It's like i have to pre-load the dodge/parry before the animation shows.

but alas, people will scream "skill problem" and sure, I'll accept that
but the bottom line is I'm not having fun
