Hanomansing and CBC are being absolutely slammed here and on X for this collaborationist normalizing. He won't listen though, he'll just post some condescending nonsense about people being upset at him "just asking questions". CBC needs to do much better in this moment.

I don’t like anything Poilievre’s proposed but there are days (like today) when I think defunding the CBC is ok. You are out of touch. You don’t read the room. The question should not be asked. Drop the American cohost and just ask people how they feel and what Canada needs to do.

Here’s how to fix this. Just call the show “why are Canadians so pissed off at us, at NPR, at NYT, and anyone else who thinks it’s a fun thought experiment to annex our country?” Then let Canadians call in and tell you why they’re mad. And make the Americans listen. Don’t ever say “51st state.”

Normally, NPR airs a show called Humankind at 4 pm Sunday. The folks at CBC and NPR presumably thought it was a programming coup to join together to air a cross-border discussion of the annexation threat. And it might have been, too, had they put a scintilla of thought into the framing.
