It also kinda feels like if you never lost your job during all that time you never really spoke against anything or anyone. That you looked at the state of the games industry and said nothing is also not a great look..

Couple this with you yourself trying to make impactful descriptions and use environment features for cool big hits causes the fun to be directly relative to how much effort is being put in by the players. The health bar becomes a fun bar, once you've reached a satisfying amount of fun they've died

Start to round the damage slightly based on player creativity/description. If they're just pouring basic attacks into it the damage starts to be rounded down or hit a max limit per player turn. If they describe something particularly cool or impactful that gets a corresponding boost to damage.

I've been really wonderfully surprised by CryptMaster! It has an interesting control scheme with a way wider application than I ever would have anticipated, coupled with Undertale style drama and comedy this game has been hilarious to go through and makes me feel smart to solve :)

Or like, games in which your cover gradually erodes due to damage. Give a slightly amping vibration to the cover control trigger as the bullets get closer to your character. The tech just gets cooler and cooler and I hope we get to follow funky ideas occasionally.
