I would do the red/purple/red as it will be easier to do the red then purple. But then I would probably come back with red afterwards to clean up where I messed up the purple because I am not efficient.

You can find some pretty easy chart websites via the Google. They show you basic contrasts to whatever colour you are using. I am by no means an expert. But i find them helpful if I am having readability issues.

If you want contrast, the opposite of green is purple,yes? So maybe magenta would also contrast strongly. Also you could just go dark/light contrast and desaturate that magenta to near black. Or even a darker blue?

I took about 7 months and came back eager to go. It happens. But if you are looking for hobby motivation you are doing the right thing. Try something new. Paint a random thing. Get our of your headspace. Go do another hobby. It will be waiting for you when you get back.

Very well done! My 1 tip. If you plan on doing more Khorne dudes. Check out Citadel "blood for the blood god" technical paint. It goes hard. Very realistic blood effect. Also the hot glue thing people do.

My understanding is that yellow is very pigment dense. But can also end up quite streaky, which sucks. The pink undercoat is a solid way of countering the issues with yellow as someone else said. Seems to have worked however! Good work!

Tax wealth not income. Reduce wealth inequality and thereby reduce the consumption of assets by the super rich driving down inflation. Give the money back to the middle class via tax cuts. Economy goes to the moon.
