*Similar to a point above, Kyle Harrison and James Tibbs III probably could have provided surplus value on their rookie contracts. That has value to a team that is becoming increasingly costly
*Contract likely looks rough by the end, but that's the case with most.

What I did not like:
*Devers is likely a 1B/DH on this roster, so he needs to hit a lot to provide value
*Adds a lot of long-term money to the books. Limits future flexibility to some degree
*Probably could have checked the same box off with a rental first baseman

*Sends a strong signal to the clubhouse that this is a team the front office believes in
*Shows that Posey is not afraid to make a bold move
*Adds to a growing nucleus of Chapman, Adames, and Webb. Recognizable to fans and prospective free agents
*Moved Jordan Hicks' contract

13. This is Buster Posey's statement that THIS team, right now, are contenders. No doubt about that. He's in the most competitive division in baseball, and he think this team is in. And Devers absolutely makes them better. But damn...what a wow moment.

12. I feel like Hicks is going to be a forgotten piece in this, but he was one of Zaidi's big swings in free agency, and...it wasn't really a bad move, at least until this year. But moving on from Hicks makes sense for the Giants right now.

11. That payroll hit is wild...and it may lock the Giants in as Luxury Tax payers for a while. That'll affect Giants draft picks for some time as well, which kinda makes me sad as someone who loves covering the farm system.

9. Devers has a chance to become the #2 Splash Hit guy behind Bonds. That's awesome.
10. Holy crap, the Giants face the Red Sox this week! That will be a hell of a series to watch.

8. Adding Devers will be a real vibe check to this Posey-Giants clubhouse. Devers clearly has been upset with the Boston front office...so a change of scenery could be good. Will Devers be a happy Giant? Will there be more problems? I'd have to think Posey did his own check.

7. Unintentionally...this is kind of a Zaidi-erasing move, trading away two of his top draft picks, and also completing a trade that Zaidi seemed to rarely pull off (only Kris Bryant's trade compares). Obviously, Patrick Bailey and Eldridge will carry on as Zaidi picks, but wow.

6. What does this mean for Wilmer Flores? No one player will get impacted more by this. He's been so key for the Giants so far...but Devers is obviously a huge upgrade. I feel bad for our favorite Friends hitter though.

5. What does this mean for Bryce Eldridge? Probably not much. I would think Devers locks down the DH spot longterm, which reduces the landing zone for Eldridge in the Majors. But the Giants like Eldridge as a first baseman, and they think he'll work out there.

4. Jose Bello is having a great season in the ACL, and he was overshadowed by the great pitchers he had been working alongside of. How he turns out could be one of those players that defines the trade in the long-term.

Clayton Kerchoke and his Mickey Mouse ring, and the other ring he got because of Freddie Freeman.
