I wonder if the doughface presidents like Pierce who used the Marines to retrieve fugitive slaves from abolitionist communities in New England also put out the 19th Century version of press releases saying they were making communities safer.

Building a nation of grifters, by grifters, and for grifters.

He's not going to answer, but I am curious to know how much of this is just a pathetic grift for him and how much is him believing insane things because he has brain damage.

These people disgust me. They hate us all. This is a game to them. They are pathologically antisocial and selfish. They deserve as much contempt as we can give. They have nothing but smug, selfish contempt for us, and they will smirk to each other as they kill children and enrich themselves doing so

That dipshit is an easy block.

It's almost never a distraction. It's just that this administration has a lot of factions that care about different stuff. The kleptocrats are doing their thing while the nativists are doing their thing and the techno-monarchist freaks are doing their thing and the Christian nationalists, etc. etc.

I don't know how anyone puts on black stormtrooper armor and doesn't get that they're not on the side of the angels anymore.

It's based on books that have stories. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not only does the Bible discuss the treatment of slaves, but it isn't even less harsh than most other contemporary slave codes in the region. Heck, it's harsher than many, several of whom had set terms for slavery and/or had protections for how they were treated.

Yup. Who knows what he'd support if he wasn't a coward unwilling to confront his own voters.

It's a reminder that the whole thing is an act. The man is actually a Rhodes Scholar. He just pretends to be a dipshit because primaries in his state are dominated by lunatics.

What in the actual fuck?

I mean, he can essentially kill you with his thoughts. Are you going to tell him he's out of his lane?

It's been decades, but yes. It was great.

It's a good sign of my contempt for that movie that I'm a SW supernerd and have no idea what that character's name is. I'm willing to give most of the modern SW stuff some leeway because I remember what it was like when there wasn't any new Star Wars to consume, but Rise of Skywalker was just bad.

And I think Bernie's stubborn insistence that he's still a "Democratic socialist" is a lot of the reason why states like Florida are off the table now. Lots of younger Cubans/Venezuelans/Nicaraguans, etc. were starting to move away from the GOP but Socialism is a big nope from them.
comment in response to post
Much of his distance with the party was fake, like pretending that Dems loved Citizens United v. FEC, when it was the Republican justices overturning a Democratic campaign finance law using a right-wing group that was targeting Hillary Clinton. Stuff that only makes sense if you don't know anything.

Yes. Because Bernie isn't actually a socialist anymore. He stopped saying actually socialist things right around the time he finally won his Congressional seat. On most issues he's just a standard Democrat, but way more pro-gun.

Younger Bernie Sanders actually WAS a socialist and regularly called for the nationalization of private industry. He'd be totally unelectable.
comment in response to post
That doesn't mean that actually being socialist isn't a big deal for the national electorate (not that Bernie has been a socialist in decades. He just uses the term to feel special and because he's too stubborn to admit he's changed over time, even though he obviously has.).

I got banned for being rude to lunatics during the pandemic. Musk unbanned me in time for me to delete my account.

That's true of the MAGA chuds but they're don't matter. What matters is everyone else.

Doh. My Internet connection sucks so I didn't see your follow up saying this until after I had written essentially the same thing. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Really demonstrates the exception to the "actually heads of government don't really affect the economy all that much compared to central bankers" rule.

More out front is good. He's terrible at this.
comment in response to post
It's amazing to me because last admin every time they put him out front he made things worse for them due to his creep factor. He can't just be the power behind the throne, though, and keeps pretending he's a capable spokesman. It's hilarious.

I liked it for a while but now I like living way out in the woods. I work from home so only drive occasionally, and do so in an EV (our local grid is pretty clean, too). But yes, cities should charge me money when I drive in to see something in DC. Congestion tax the hell out of it.

It's been working for them so far. They've seen over and over that they can say the most outrageous shit and Fox News will normalize it and the base will soon adopt it as talking points in online arguments as if it made any sense at all.

That's a dirty lie. He doesn't molest children. He eats them.
