Dying at anyone thinking of Frey as the "literary bad boy." He was last seen whimpering pathetically on Oprah when it was revealed all the "bad" things he did in his memoir were made up.

This is basically the standard GenAI use case. Someone hoping AI will let them pretend to be informed yet actually just wasting everyone's time with nonsense. www.semafor.com/article/06/0...

"The plan? Help a struggling restaurant get free publicity by telling credulous journalists the chef is ChatGPT."

Excellent #nabokovilia right off the bat in Lincoln Michel’s METALLIC REALMS

The three media professions with no standards for accuracy and where being consistently wrong is in fact rewarded are political pundit, sports commentator, and tech "journalist." The successful in each field realize the job is mindlessly boosting your team

lol sigh

Ukraine just carried out what may prove to be the most strategically devastating insurgent attack on military assets in the 21st century, an eighteen month cross border drone infiltration / raid potentially destroying a third or so of Russia's best long range bombers

I'm not sure "Trump voters couldn't possibly have known about the policies he centered his campaign on and said repeatedly in every rally, speech, and public appearance" is a compelling argument.

all the free speech on campus crusaders are gonna get right on this any day now

Very much appreciate this review from @biblioracle.bsky.social that calls METALLIC REALMS not just a fun read but "an absolute blast." This was exactly my goal when writing. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/05/31/b... @chicagotribune.com @atriabooks.bsky.social

Several times I've asked AI evangelists how they expect society to handle their predicted mass unemployment and every time they've just kind of mumbled "well UBI will just HAVE to happen." None have a theory of how. What about American politics makes you think that could happen? Pure fanfic.

Agree. Though I guess a decade ago there was more plausible deniability for Republican dudes. You still heard people say "Oh Republicans don't really want to overturn Roe!" "We don't care what you do in your bedroom." "I just want to reduce the deficit!" type nonsense back then.

Central fallacy tech evangelists fall for--see crypto, NFTs, GenAI, etc.--is idea new tech must inevitably improve our lives or else be abandoned. Much of the time tech simply makes life worse and improves nothing beyond companies' bottom lines where worse but cheaper equals money

Rewatching Deadwood. Very good. Which reminds me I never saw the later movie. Is it worth it?

"I had his yada yada with some fava beans and a nice chianti." "You yada yada'd over the best part!" "No. I mentioned the fava beans."

This week's episode of our short story podcast is all about The Tugwort by @thelincoln.bsky.social ! Someone really should make a Tugwort plushie and sell it to kids. The world needs more nasty little monsters. open.spotify.com/episode/4mfe...

This temper tantrum only exists because clips of Bourdain treating Palestinians with humanity have been shared on social media.

If this is even remotely accurate, Elon Musk and Donald Trump have killed more people in several months than the Iraq war killed in a decade

Remains very hard for a satirical dystopian SF writer to keep up these days
