This is important re:scientists & NIH. We can’t be complacent with saying, “phew, a court order brought things back to the status quo.” Shredding grant overhead overnight is not the right answer, but ignoring the need for reform isn’t either.

Biopharma companies and CEOs are keeping their heads down at their own peril. They should speak up about what’s happening to the NIH and other science agencies before it’s too late. Silence gives consent. And no one should consent to this.

For readers interested in extracellular targeted protein degradation, here's a comprehensive review of the various strategies that are being explored tinyurl.com/3sef94dx rdcu.be/d9twH

My editorial on the indirect cuts. This is an opportunity for campuses to come together to make the case for higher education. Leaders need to step up and ask for support and lead. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Helpful table to determine how much your University or health system is set to lose if the NIH indirect cap is suddenly lowered to 15%. For SJSU it is $374k which is on the smaller end but devastating considering our other budget issues. datawrapper.dwcdn.net/l0ZqA/8/

This is such an important point…

Can’t believe I’m typing this but… FUCK IT IM PLANNING A STAND UP FOR SCIENCE PROTEST IN DC. If you want to be involved, be dm me. I’m nervous, I’ve never done this before, but we gotta be the change we want to see in the world.

This blue place is picking up speed! With new followers, I think it’s a good time to (re)introduce myself. I’m an assistant professor and a cell biologist at UCSF, where my team explores the function and dynamic regulation of the nuclear lamina. (1/n)

I'm not sure anyone is reading papers during the NIH chaos, but I had a lot of fun writing this review on LAG3! This highlights several recent breakthroughs related to the LAG3 immunosuppression mechanism & provides perspectives on therapeutic targeting. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Enjoyed talking to the Tampa Bay Times about public universities and politics. Shocker: if something is part of state government, it is political. www.tampabay.com/news/educati...

Ah yes, I see it's the time of year when the Philanthropy Industrial Complex (Big P for short) seeds negative stories about Mackenzie Scott because everything about the way she gives money undercuts their entire model... fortune.com/article/mack...

In one year, I genetically engineered the boring Arabidopsis into a beautiful ornamental flower 🧬🌹 Here is how and why I gave this model organism a visual upgrade 🧵(1/7)

First post on bsky to highlight our latest work on smell receptors (www.nature.com/articles/s41...). Odorant receptors are notoriously challenging to work with - we used a classic strategy from protein engineering to get a peek into how these receptors recognize such a diversity of smells.

Super excited to see our Notch agonists highlighted in Nature @natureportfolio.bsky.social! This protein engineering project was carried out by postdoc David Perez @dhperez.bsky.social and many talented collaborators at Moffitt Cancer Center. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Cool preprint by ⁦Dustin and coworkers on how various T cell engager formats, w/varying geometries/rigidities, impact synapse structure and potency www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We're looking to recruit a postdoc with expertise in RNA biology to join our glyco-RNA team. Please share. moffitt-cancer-center-careers.hctsportals.com/jobs/1808511...

If you're a postdoc looking for opportunities, we are recruiting another *19* new assistant professors with outstanding startup conditions, as part of the Data-Driven Life Science initiative In Sweden! Check out the people who started a year ago, and apply here: www.scilifelab.se/news/second-...

Announcing the 8th Molecular Perspectives in Protein Protein Interactions Conference, Oct 2025 on the island of Crete! Last year all trainees who gave a talk or a poster received a travel award. Sessions range from protein design to infection and immunity. www.aegeanconferences.org/src/App/conf...
