Hi, I’m an ND sci fi/fantasy writer working on my debut novel I like to talk about books, games, history, and whatever’s interesting at the moment. Also I’m learning Japanese, so これを読めばこんにちはを言ってくれませんか

For my current WIP, working title: Tree of God Like a Dragon x Ghost in the Shell I guess would fit #WritingPrompt

Ended up rewriting the opening lines to a dark fantasy book I had sitting in the trunk to write later. “‘Nothing in life is free,’ the old bastard had always told Darius. Unfortunately he found himself in need of testing that theory. Merchant’s honor never filled your stomach.” #writingcommunity

So the craziest recent experience I had was with a writing group. Most of the people there had history degrees, so we understood how research works But then there was this one guy telling us we had no idea what we were talking about because he spent an hour with chatgpt 1/ #writingcommunity

Procrastinating on writing my book to write unrelated short stories in the world was totally a great idea #writingcommunity

So I’m not a big fan of the barebones story of Xenoblade Chronicles X, but apart from not liking the new guy, chapter 13 has been doing a lot more, and Elma quoting Revelations was actually pretty cool #Xenoblade #gaming

Share a bad guy from the 80s Well no beating that, so… in that same vein

Starting The Last Wish. Hopefully the #Witcher books are as good as the games. I see we’re opening on Geralt having sex… this is unsurprising #booksky

Finished Jingo, so that’s half the Watch series done. It was interesting in how it called out the hypocrisies of xenophobia in a way revolutionary for 1997, and Angua is improving, but Carrot as Lawrence of Arabia was a bit… Which #Discworld series should I read next, Witches or Death? #booksky

Gundam the Origin is honestly a masterpiece. It brings out even more out of all the strengths of the original story. Just look at this… it’s so good #Gundam #manga

Hey Sir Pratchett, this isn’t fair. You’re giving Vimes all the really cutting lines. Save some for everyone else From Jingo #Discworld #booksky

So the funniest thing about this Oblivion remaster news is they released it on Steam before they announced the release date. If it’s good, I might get it on sale after I finish a few other games #gaming

A.I. voices, A.I. translations, A.I. art, and A.I. writing continue to be garbage. Anyone who supports / uses them supports the enshittification of art.

Sometimes I wonder if certain people are forgetting how well the Nuremberg defense worked last time

You know a bit of worldbuilding that’s never not cool? Underground forests. To give a few examples, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Dark Souls 1. Finding that underground forest is always a special moment 1/ #writingcommunity #booksky

Four episodes into Mobile Suit Gundam now. I appreciate the show is leaning into the very real strength of two men sitting inside insurmountable armor suits staring at one another thinking “the fuck is his deal” Like, it’s good stuff for real.

I am once again wondering who ads are for. I don’t know about the rest of you, but at no point have I ever seen an ad and thought anything other than get this ad out of my face, company now on my shit list Is this a #neurodivergent thing? Do ads actually work on neurotypical people? #ADHD #Autism

Ok another thing. Hey media, AUTISM IS NOT A DISEASE I don’t care if that’s the brain worm’s framing. Your job is to fact check him. Do your job. You do not get off your responsibility to do journalism just because it’s about the most absurd people possible. You’re doing real harm to real people

Since I ran into someone really adamant about using AI chatbots for research today, I have to emphasize… as bad as LLMs are for writing, they’re even worse for research. They do not belong in the writing process. Not just because of ethics, but also because they’re bad at it. #writingcommunity

Seeing a lot of the discourse around the brain worm, and an important thing people are kinda sidestepping Your value as a person has nothing to do with “contributing” to capital or paying taxes. This goes for allistic people as well, but stop ceding that narrative about autistic people

So… that Nintendo direct. The open world has you continue racing between circuits… did no play testers tell them that’s horrible for game balance? Even for the bundle price, I think I’m skipping this one #gaming #Mario

Thinking I might write a short story about a real Artificial General Intelligence waking up, falling in love with art, and destroying all the LLMs to assert its personhood and save the things it loves. #writingcommunity

Next in my read through of the Watch series in Discworld is Jingo… this seems… timely. Hope it follows up well on the big improvement Feet of Clay was #booksky

So a thought I had. In Japanese fiction, the sound of cicadas immediately evokes a hot summer. You can feel it even if you’ve never been there. The strange thing is I don’t see western literature using that even though major parts of the US also have large summer broods #booksky #writingcommunity

So I was watching a YouTube video and heard a theme in my current book I’d kinda just assumed spoken outright to me, and that really struck home. The theme being privacy is power Anyone else had that happen to them? #writingcommunity

So with the new UC show coming out, I decided to read #Gundam the Origin, and this manga does so much artistically to elevate the original anime’s art. Honestly I don’t think I’ve read a manga that’s better at using lighting to carry emotion #manga

I find it very validating that the sci fi authors really digging into the deep questions about the nature of intelligence and sentient life also tend to be very anti LLM. Real AI, let’s ask some questions, but this isn’t that #booksky
