Hi, I’m an ND sci fi/fantasy writer working on my debut novel
I like to talk about books, games, history, and whatever’s interesting at the moment.
Also I’m learning Japanese, so これを読めばこんにちはを言ってくれませんか

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do that if I wasn’t so far along. A lot of languages are lacking in good, accessible media for immersion, so it’s lucky it was Japanese

I dropped it when they first started using auto generated content. I kinda just replaced it with immersion, but that’s only really working for Japanese. Still don’t have a new way to practice my French

And it gets even worse when the user isn’t searching for basic facts it already gets wrong. When it’s asked to do any kind of analysis not based on pattern recognition, it’s even more useless and then just makes up sources for the information the glorified autocorrect made up

So he comes in asking for feedback on a medieval fantasy story he had a vague concept of. We all had at least a vague understanding of that period, and how basic sociology and economics work, but he kept insisting a chatbot is research, and that we could agree to disagree on basic facts

That does sound fun. Might end on Death to go out on a high note. Colour of Magic didn’t give me a super high opinion on Rincewind as a protagonist, so I’ve been kinda dragging my feet on the Wizards, but Witches sounds fun

No, the battery did that to it. It was crazy. Glad it bent the back instead of exploding inside though

Lithium batteries can build up gas if they have extended current problems, usually from overcharging, but that definitely wasn’t the problem, so I’m not sure

The courts do technically. It has a long history of being classified as compelled speech with the courts ruling any individual can refuse to say it. It shouldn’t exist at all, but whether it should exist is hard to bring before a court constitutioncenter.org/amp/blog/the...

When I replaced mine, it was ballooned out, and the back panel is still bent out of shape

Otherwise, how would he have eaten Kami during the tournament. His throat needs to lead somewhere other than his lungs for that

Logically, probably not, but by series logic, almost definitely

The next week. For the Friday of the current week, it’s just Friday
This week: “Let’s see a movie Friday.”
Next week: “let’s see a movie next Friday”

And then Wakka stays just as bad through his “redemption” “arc” in X-2 where he does nothing to evolve beyond “you’re one of the good ones Rikku”
Giving his kid an Al Bhed name is a fig leaf, not progress.
At least there’s no Seymour in X-2

Definitely go see Ash Lake. It has a stunning atmosphere, and it’s also important to the end of Siegmeyer’s quest

Ash Lake isn’t dlc. It’s just behind two invisible walls in a tree on the other side of the poison lake from Quelaag

Syrcus easily
Dun Scaith
Lighthouse probably, but I don’t really like any of them outside the Cid fight in Monastery which drags hard
they’re all pretty good, but Tower probably
Thaleia has some of the best individual fights, but it drags, so Euphrosyne
Guess I have to go with Jueno

Yeah, but I don’t think any of them have quite the impact of Ash Lake

Additionally, with the impact this discovery has on the characters, you now have them invested in learning how such a thing is possible, so if you want to answer that, you now have a ready audience 3/3

It’s this thing that shouldn’t exist, that firmly makes the world feel so much bigger than the characters, vast and unknowable. This seeming impossibility is now something the character needs to wrap their worldview around. 2/

Like you’re interrupting the thing I chose to do. I don’t care who you are or what you want to sell. You’re unwelcome in my brain space because you weren’t invited, so you’ve earned a spot on my boycott list

Everyone has value because they’re human, not because they pay taxes. Yes, it’s important that his characterization of autistic people is wrong and harmful, but his entire framing of value is equally wrong and harmful

Yeah, if the Federation were fighting anyone but Zeon, they’d be villains. Amuro is at least on the older side of series protagonists. In Victory, the protagonist is 12

Another option is The Origin manga, which refines the story a bit and really tightens up the pacing
