Honestly, it isn’t even just monetary. Even for *free* things aren’t being downloaded much and if no one is reading, let alone playing, what’s the point? I’m not an artist making it for the sake of art itself, my works exist to be in conversation with players.

Secret #3 - D&D is really bad at this, both in the rules — there's no "background hooks" you make to other characters — and, culturally, there's a lot of "you're all on your own in a tavern and ..." yeah, the adventure starts.
While that *can* work, it usually makes a pretty tepid start.
