Artist- Muddy Waters Song- Hoochie Coochie Man Two great sounds that don’t get enough recognition as stand out “sounds” are the Philly soul sound and the Chicago blues sound. One of those most recognizable post World War II blues tracks, Hoochie Coochie man

A side project of #AlJourgensen of #Ministry & #IanMacKay of #MinorThreat, #Pailhead fused hardcore #Industrial music with #PunkRock- Starckers loved this potent synergy & Pailhead’s punchy 1989 cut “Don’t Stand In Line” #80sMusic #Dallas #1980s #80s #Fugazi #Darkwave youtu.be/UHSuEKmviMI?...

Artist- DeBarge Song- I Like It I think Ray and I could should do a show with the best performances from Soul Train and Showtime At The Apollo Theater. The first hit from the DeBarge family would be sample by a ton of artist, LL Cool J, Beyonce, Grand Puba, Wreckx-n-Effect, and Warren G.

Artist- Joy Division/New Order Song- Bizarre Love Triangle For me, this encapsulates what the 89’s looked like. One of New Order’s most recognizable songs.

Scottish #NewWave band #FictionFactory scored a hit in 1984 with their single “Feels Like Heaven.” Music critic #DavidOkamoto called it ‘the song #SpandauBallet would kill for… one of the prettiest singles of the year’ – it was a beloved early #StarckClub fave #80sMusic youtu.be/KQBoeBgb0uk?...

Artist- The White Stripes Song- Hello Operator I was pleasantly surprised to see The White Stripes on the list of candidates for the rock hall of fame. Some of their work before the White Blood Cells album gets overlooked a bit. Here’s one of my favorites, from the De Stijl album.

All love to the playlist100 and the great lads responsible for it. I'll take this version though. youtu.be/zZQh4IL7unM?...

Artist- Mariah Carey Song- Vision Of Love I had no idea Mariah Carey’s Rock And Roll Hall of Fame candidacy would be a hot topic. Figured she was a shoe in off of numbers alone. There’s some tough competition this year, but Ray and I both think she gets in this year.

Artist- Gang start Song- You Know My Steez This song shows the great versatility of primo. I remember first hearing this song back in the day thinking it was a kid capri beat. And as usual guru delivers.

Artist- TOOL Song- Schism As a drummer, this was a very difficult song to learn. Even with the sheet music I struggle with this. I REALLY appreciate the artistry in this song.

Originally released by Tito Puente in 1962, the song gained worldwide recognition when Santana released his version in 1971. The Hammond B-3 organ is often referenced when it comes to blues, soul, and metal. It’s put to great use in this song.

Artist- Faith Evans Song- You Used To Love Me I think Faith Evans is one of the artist that gets overshadowed from the crowded 90’s. This song was originally meant for the group Total.

Artist- Matt And Kim Song- Good Ol Fashion Nightmare One of my favorite bands. They were featured heavily on the tv show Community. This is one of the bands that got me into indie/indie pop. Stripped down and simple.

Artist- Depeche Mode Song- Just Can’t Get Enough I never realized how big this song was until I saw a Celtics vs Rangers soccer game. This song is right up there with the best sports anthems ever.

Artist- Nina Simone Song- I Put A Spell On You There’s not much I can add or say about this amazing performance. Just in awe.

Artist- Kana-Boon Song- Naimononedari One of my favorite bands out of Japan. Some of you may know the band from the anime Naruto, they have had a few songs featured on the credits. But I love this sound and the concept behind the video. An awesome time.

Artist- Yeah Yeah Yeahs Songs- Maps One of the most popular songs of the early 2000’s. Beyonce would also interpolate lyrics from this for her Lemonade single. I love the stripped down sound the Yeah Yeah Yeahs offered here.

Artist- Sonic Youth Song- Youth Against Fascism I don’t think this song needs a catchy caption. The title is self explanatory. Think the folks on Bluesky will appreciate this one.

A great way to ease into your Saturday. My favorite era of hip hop is the jazz raps era, any song that has a nice sax line always catches my ear. Artist- Souls of Mischief Song- 93 ‘Til Infinity

The roots of goth music dates back to this 1950’s CLASSIC. Even though some may not consider this a gothic song, this is where the seeds were planted. Ironically Hawkins wasn’t too found of the “screamin” moniker. Artist- Screamin’ Jay Hawkins Song- I Put A Spell On You (1956)

There’s just something about this song that really gets you going. The ebb and flows, the symbols crashing, the thumping bassline. Artist- System of A Down Song- Toxicity

Artist- Pink Floyd Song- Another Brick In The Wall

Artist- Simply Red Song- Holding Back The Years The song was originally written by Mick Hucknall when he was a member of the band Frantic Elevators at just 17 years old.

Artist- Easy Freak, Langa Mavuso Song- All I Want So I was listening/looking for some South African R&B and I came across Langa Mavuso which lead to me Easy Freak. This song is sooo damn good. Give them a listen.

Artist- Feid Song- CHORRITO PA LAS ANIMAS One of my favorite songs of the last couple of years. Feid is just coming off his highly successful world tour: Ferxxocalipsis World Tour. A nice song for the hump day commute.

Artist- Caitlin Cannon Song- Beggar My country music knowledge is dicey at best, just not my cup of tea. But this artist and song REALLY stood out to me on the first listen. She’s one of my favorites currently from the genre.

Artist- Nas Song- Still Dreaming Probably my favorite song from the “Hip Hop Is Dead” album. There’s a hidden gem or two on the album, even though it underwhelmed commercially.

45 YEARS AGO - On this day in 1980, up 13 places to No.7 was... Please Don't Go by KC & The Sunshine Band www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwrV... #80sMusic #80s #Eighties

CALL THE COPS. HAPPY MONDAYS // Step On The band’s cover of the John Kongos track ‘He’s Gonna Step On You Again’. Shaun Ryder observed: “I suppose it’s about how Ecstasy made the white man dance, innit?” #HAPPYMONDAYS

Artist- Jamiroquai Song- Emergency On Planet Earth What do you get when you mix hip hop, funk, rock, jazz, disco, and soul? You get Acid Jazz. This song features a sick bass line from Stuart Zender and some great vocals.

Artist- Kid 'n Play Song- Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody Good way to start a Monday. Known for the House Party films, Kid 'n Play were pretty good performers when New Jack Swing was a prominent sound. I know I still do the famous “Kick Step” lol

Artist- 311 Song- Feels So Good Ray and I were recently talking about some of our favorite bassist and bass lines. What’s one thing 311, Incubus, Sublime all have in common?

Artist- Juna Serita Song- Run For Cover As always my favorite Japanese artist delivers. They do a great job on the David Sanborn cover. You may remember the bassist from our previous Tokyo Groove Jyoshi post.

Artist- Jimi Hendrix Song- Crosstown Traffic. This video is sooooo New York. It looks so different now, buyer so many things are still the same. This one is from the 🦏

Artist- Celia Cruz and Tito Puente Song- Quimbara When you put the king and queen together, you get pure unadulterated GREATNESS. 💃 🕺

Artist- Neneh Cherry Song- Buffalo Stance Been listening to a ton of late 80’s and early 90’s music. This song always stands out. This video is exactly what the 80’s turning into the 90’s looked like. Side note- let’s get into some of our favorite female emcees.

Originally recorded by Simon & Garfunkel in 1966, “Hazy Shade Of Winter” was covered by all-girl L.A. #PopRock band #TheBangles for the sdtk of the 1987 #TeenAngst film LESS THAN ZERO- their version peaked at #2 on the USA Hot100 & became a Starck fave #80sMusic #80s youtu.be/TxrwImCJCqk?...

Artist- Wham! Song- Last Christmas Can’t believe we didn’t post this Christmas song sooner.

Artist- Jackson 5 Song- I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause Now this song confused a lot of children (me) lol. I thought this was a song about mom cheating on dad with Santa, but dad is Santa 😂

Artist- Jurassic 5 Song- What’s Golden We talked about Jurassic 5 on the last show. When people mention their top groups of all time, Jurassic 5 seems to be left off these list. Very under appreciated by the mainstream.

Artist- Kajagoogo Song- Too Shy The opening intro features a SICK guitar intro. This one comes in from the 🦏.

Artist- Indeep Song- Last Night A D.J Saved My Life Just getting into some post disco on the way home.

Artist- MGMT Song- Electric Feel My dad gave this band the biggest compliment. When he first heard this song, he asked me if it was The Bee Gees. Here’s a super early recording of Electric Feel.

Artist- Jorja Smith ft. Preditah Song- On My Mind One of the most eclectic modern day artist. You never know what you are going to get from a Jorja Smith song. One song could be trip ho, jazz, and the next could be her spitting bars. Just an AMAZING artist.

Artist- The Postal Service Song- Sleeping In I originally discovered this band on the soundtrack for The Interstate. Around 2002 bands like The Postal Service, MGMT, Phoenix played a big role in the synth revival of the early 2000’s.

Artist- Michael Sembello Song- Automatic Man This was a great follow up for the hit song Maniac. It’s hard to believe the Bossa Nova Hotel album was the only album of his to chart
