"Diversity" becoming synonymous with Black is a direct result of colorblind and post-racial rhetorics from the early 2000s. The idea of "not seeing color" was always a lie, and now, all those narratives coupled with watered down "POC" focused initiatives have left Black folk completely unprotected.

Read something other than comics before you try to make comics. Don’t get me wrong, read a SHITLOAD of comics. But also read prose fiction, non-fiction, biographies, textbooks, encyclopedias, and other kinds of books. Comics inspired only by other comics are not good comics.

There are a billions of people. It is not possible that there is no one who wants to read your work, or doesn't connect with it. With these type of numbers there are thousands or even millions of people who will like your work. Distribution/gatekeeping is our barrier. Write for those people anyway.
