This is just wrong. Yes there were massive right wing attack campaigns, but they were aimed squarely at Labor and teals. Genuinely surprising considering how hard they went against the Greens in the Prahran byelecton. #auspol www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

If Josh Frydenberg had stood in Kooyong he would be leader of the opposition by the end of the week and potentially PM in 3 years. Almost feel sorry for him. Almost. #auspol

Wait, I thought Suellen Wrightson was going to be the next Prime Minister? 🤣 #auspol

Didn't realise it was up to political parties to pick youth MPs... #nzpol

While I do agree with the premise of the article, really worth considering that headlines like this might have the effect of turning people away from voting and just making the problem worse.

They're just not ready for government. #auspol www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

A new project to track polls: The NYT will build off the work of the recently shuttered 538, trying to ensure that this resource, which is a foundational tool for many journalists and researchers, remains updated long-term. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/17/p...

Mocking struggling families isn't leadership. Good on for Arena Williams calling it out in this powerful piece. #nzpol www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

I welcome folks standing for local government being honest about political affiliations, like City Vision has always been (Labour, Greens left non-party mbrs like me). It does get tiresome being told by former Nat Cabinet Ministers that they are independent. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...

It's going to be very interesting to see how they go, in some councils I think ACT candidates could do very well. #nzpol

Clive Palmer spends $500k on YouTube ads in 10 days

I've uploaded the latest Talbot Mills poll to The Progress Report so you can see who would get elected on those numbers. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz

Fun fact: today marks Chlöe Swarbrick's first anniversary of co-leadership of the Greens. Interested to hear how people think she's performed in the role. #nzpol

I've uploaded the latest Curia poll to The Progress Report, so you can see exactly who would get into Parliament on these numbers and predict which seats would change hands. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz

Interesting that ACT are spending thousands promoting tests and quizzes designed to capture user data. Anyone remember Cambridge Analytica? www.facebook.com/ads/library/... #nzpol

new @dataforprogress.org data confirms what you’ve always felt: democrats criticize their own party way more than republicans do

I've updated the Labour and National caucus lists to reflect the new rankings - so if you use the MMP or caucus calculators you can see who would be in or out of Parliament on current numbers. Enjoy! #nzpol

This seems apt. Going to nzfirst dot org dot nz (the URL you'd expect the party to use) redirects you to an online casino. #nzpol

🆕 In today’s Playbook, will there be a Starmer bounce for his handling of Ukraine? Our polling over the weekend suggests maybe early signs of one. Starmer overtakes Farage, on who would make the best PM up 6pts from last week, though none of them still leads.

Something pretty exciting I've been working on - a dashboard to track and explore NZ political ads on Meta and Google - categorised by party, government level and electorate. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz/ad-tracker/

Elon Musk is cratering in polls: WaPo: Only 34% approve of Musk's role, 63% worry about his data access CNN: 54% say it's bad Musk was given a big role Majorities disapprove of Trump in CNN, WaPo, Gallup. On the pod, @juliaazari.bsky.social is great on all this: newrepublic.com/article/1917...

I've been working on a fun new tool to look at political ad spending in NZ. Fun fact: so far the most expensive single ad I've found is an ACT YouTube ad where they spent up to $90k targeting the entire county but *excluded* the entire Wellington region. They know their audience! #nzpol

The National govt told the reserve bank to ignore keeping people in employment and slam on the brakes harder. they even changed the law to tell them to do that. Now even Mike Hosking can see the damage that’s done! www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-air/mike-...

He's just not very good at this. #nzpol

The two Victorian byelections tonight are fascinating. Early still but looks to me like the Liberals are doing far worse than expected. www.vec.vic.gov.au/voting/curre... #vicpol #auspol

Our latest voting intention poll (2-3 Feb) has Reform UK in front for the first time, although the 1pt lead is within the margin of error. Ref: 25% (+2 from 26-27 Jan) Lab: 24% (-3) Con: 21% (-1) Lib Dem: 14% (=) Green: 9% (=) SNP: 3% (=) yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

I've added the latest Talbot Mills poll to www.theprogressreport.co.nz - the second poll in a row that has Labour ahead of National, this one also showing Hipkins ahead of Luxon as preferred PM. #nzpol

RIP former NZ Labour Minister Russell Marshall. Aged 88. A good guy. 😢 He was High Commissioner of NZ to UK, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Disarmament and Arms Control, Minister of Conservation, Minister of Education, and Minister for Environment. #NZpol www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

Analysis: Notwithstanding the Government’s talk about tax cuts and falling interest rates, a majority of New Zealanders say the country is going the wrong way newsroom.co.nz/2025/01/19/l...

Missed this when it came out a few days ago, but I've just uploaded the first poll of 2025 to The Progress Report - remarkably a Curia poll showing Labour out-polling National for the first time since April 2023. #nzpol theprogressreport.co.nz

Really interesting article in The Age about donations for last year's Victorian local government elections. The Greens should be very worried about just how ineffective their campaign was. #auspol www.theage.com.au/politics/vic...
