More decluttering work at the house today. Another truckload ready for the dump. I really want to change this space for the better. It means parting with a lot, but I think it's long overdue. A big donation is going to the Friends of the Library as well. Boxes! Plural! Of books! 😳

Dear OPM, this week: 1) I have eaten the plums 2) I got them from the icebox 3) you were probably saving them for breakfast? 4) Forgive me? 5) They were so sweet. So cold.

Hey kids. It’s rough out there right now. If you need a kind word and some resources? See below.

Here’s something I wrote a few years ago. It resonated with many back then. I had hoped it might become less relevant with time, and I still hold out hope that will be the case in the long run. In the meantime, I hope it finds those who need it. groundedcuriosity.com/the-only-wom...

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

Tonight's tune.

Yeah. That sums it up...

*sitting next to a woman in her 70’s who worked with Fauci on AIDS research* woman: I never order tequila because when I order tequila the only two things I think are “every man wants me, and every man wants me naked right now” me: ok but what if I ordered tequila woman: listen

The reply email inbox for this “what did you do last week” email is [email protected], so, you know, definitely don’t send them any unrelated messages that would interfere with their ability to carry out Elon’s dumbass bullshit

I don't like to bring Twitter shit to Bluesky, but M*sk's tweet about an email being sent to Federal employees needing a response asap or be fired...just landed in my work inbox. What. The. Fuck. I'm not answering ANYTHING until I hear from my supervisor. Who already knows what I did last week.

On the cutting room floor is the bit where the host introduced their interview series, The Interview, and I asked how long it took to come up with the name. Anyway, here’s me talking about birds and science and burnout and moving through the world. The photo’s nice! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...

Sitting here feeling cranky, only to realize I wasn't in my pjs yet and my hair was up in a tight bun. 😅 Ridiculous! Fixed both, and man, what a mood shift.

Since I’ve been getting this a lot - if you feel like supporting me by buying a jersey or something, I would rather you make a donation to Trans Lifeline or The Trevor Project www.thetrevorproject.org

Friday night news drop is spicy tonight. Damn. Trying to keep track of it all...

Ladies and gentlemen... the weekend. (also: you are important and are not alone 🧡)

Another dispiriting all-hands just wrapped for our office. At this point, they're more depressing than helpful. Talking about a pizza party for DC staff, "looking on the bright side" as we're told that another handful of people are likely being let go this week. The disconnect is ridiculous.

@teenvogue.com has more journalistic integrity than @nytimes.com 💅🏽

"Altman later testified that his diagnosis was driven in part by Petitt’s accomplishments. The books, the degrees, the piloting job, all while raising kids, it was “well beyond what any woman I’ve ever met could do” — and therefore suggestive that she was manic." JFC the misogyny

🤬National Science Foundation administrators reclassified hundreds of employees from permanent to probationary status in violation of labor contracts, according to a U.S. lawmaker and agency employee.

#akleg Well, this is insane. Mendenhall Glacier will get 700k visitors this year and have two staffers to manage the facilities. Good luck keeping the bathrooms clean and keeping people safe from bear encounters.

Today's been a better day. I had the loveliest moment with my dad/stepmom/kids this morning. I got assigned a new project at work that has lots of quirks to keep me engaged. The gym session gave me some support/perspective. And there's new tile going into my kitchen. Not bad.

@science.org just published this article about the Paleontological Research Institution and its importance in this time of financial crisis for the institution. Please share widely as donations in any amount can make a real difference in the short-medium term. ⚒️🧪🦑 www.science.org/content/arti...

Conditions at the site are primitive, the detainees said. Diseases, including dengue are endemic to the region, and the government has denied access to journalists and aid organizations. “It looks like a zoo, there are fenced cages,” said a 27-year-old migrant from Iran.

I think an early bedtime is in order. I have a session with my trainer in the morning that feels utterly pointless since I haven't been working out. The self-loathing is off the charts. Avoiding mirrors. Kindof off the rails this week. I need to get recentered.

NEW: At least 200 Afghan Americans in the U.S. military have relatives who applied for refugee status only to be blocked by Trump’s refugee ban. “We serve this country because it protected us, but now it is abandoning my sister,” said one soldier. By @lomikriel.bsky.social

I've had Tom Waits - Downtown Train stuck in my head all week now. It's such a good song. music.youtube.com/watch?v=vxCY...

NOAA is in the Trump administration's crosshairs. You know the important work they do, but may now know that It's the descendant of the Coast Survey, the nation's first scientific agency, founded in 1807 under Jefferson. I spoke with maritime historians to put NOAA's legacy in context. 🧪🦑🌎🐟

If you could use a little brightness in your day, I recommend spending some time with sled dog MUPPY. I’m genuinely obsessed with her. She is an icon. She is a legend. Her legs are 4 inches long.

Timeline cleanse: There is a very hefty beaver living and thriving on the Chicago River and I personally think that the city should name her Sigourney Beaver but my fellow citizens have come up with some other good suggestions 🦫💚 blockclubchicago.org/2025/02/18/a...

Giving some melatonin+ashwaganda gummies a try for bedtime tonight. Fingers crossed. Sleep has been pretty hit or miss, and it's making everything feel more difficult than it already is.
