Not a strategic move prior to hurricanes season: "The NWS office in Houston will soon be without any permanent management staff: their meteorologist-in-charge, warning coordination meteorologist, science and operations officer, and electronics system analyst will all be retired by the end of April."

Pope Francis has died, Vatican says in video statement reut.rs/3GhDmRE

Nice of Dollar General to make sure cats are prepared for snowstorms.

When the boss has 60k some people wish you happy birthday :) Spending my birthday working a livestream, as we've done for 6/7 days this week!

No SPS's from Memphis for anything sub-severe in their WFO tonight. Additionally, we won't be getting the normal trickle of info from the previous storms, expect to see info released in bulk. I'm exhausted from the coverage this week. I can't imagine how all you mets are feeling. Much love <3

Saved this yesterday. Still in awe.

Ok... I think we did good. I believe I issued over 100 y'all watches, and I heard there were over 230 tornado warnings for the day. Coverage was immaculate and we peaked at 288,000 viewers for severe weather, a new high for the mode.

Southern friends, if you’ve ever wondered what’s left behind after those huge piles of snow melt in our parking lots up here, I’m here to satisfy your dull curiosity. Where doe that gravel come from? We’re also left with giant potholes. Check the car-eaters at about 2 o’clock, almost out of frame.

Some info from storm surveys from last nights tornadoes in Arkansas, Missouri, and Indiana. The Cave City, AR was right at the threshold going from a strong to violent tornado. Still awaiting into from NWS St. Louis.

Long day! Now that I’ve had some time to scroll, I’m glad to see there was a lot more real time analysis and reporting here on BSky for Friday’s event then I’ve seen in the past. Let’s keep that going and growing! Now to grab a glorified power nap before dealing with Saturday. #wxsky

That kinda day.

Heads up: over on Facebook NWS SPC will be hosting a Facebook Live at 2pm CT.

Eclipse was worth staying up for. No good photos, just sat in a chair and enjoyed the show. Bonus of also staying up late enough to check out the 06z HRRR run!

Gotta give The Pitt credit, it's been a while since I've gone 'oh it's 3am wtf' because a show drew me in so much. As a Yinzer, I appreciate how the writers crammed in as many local references in as possible. The emotional gut punches hit hard. The acting is top-notch. Enjoying the hell out of it!

Connor absolutely rocked this. As a child, I remember my dad taking me to an overlook near Renovo that had a view of the Moshannon F4 damage path. Just a wide line cut through the forest, as if someone ran a razor blade. I give that experience credit for jumpstarting my fascination with weather.

If you haven't already signed up for this spring I can't reccomend armchair forecaster enough. Andrew put a ton of work into the game and imo it's one of the best severe forecasting contests around! armchairforecaster.com

Apropos of everything, I keep a very frequently (these days) updated list of internships/jobs across the wx-climate enterprise here: wx.erau.edu/about/opport.... Open to anyone, not just our students. I will start including higher-level positions than I normally do (normally focus on entry-level).

I don't have words. I'm sorry for y'all. For science. For our country. Do we have a weather jobs hashtag on here to help some people get back on their feet? #WxJobs or something? #wxsky

AMS being the best.

The thing about sudden death hockey is that it is absolutely the greatest

Spent a good amount of time yesterday and today playing around with this site. It's cool as hell! They did some great work with this.

Some new features rolling out today.

Related to mass federal firings today: If anyone out there in private sector has a need for a highly-qualified PhD-level wildfire risk modeler (or MS/PHD-level meteorologist), available immediately, please do reach out via email or DM! (Not for me, but trying to help others out.)

Found this cool clip of lightning coming down right as a DOW scans towards it, during the El Dorado tornado last year. #wxsky

Y'all Squad making it's way over here now! And YS is hiring! This post is for Dallas, but there's a spot open for the same position near Atlanta!

I was supposed to go have family dinner at my mom’s place tonight, but considering I skated my way down the sidewalk to the driveway, I think I’ll be staying home. #wxsky

Context is in the thread above this post, OK friends please give it a read.

If you’ve got entry level emergency management positions open for the end of spring please, please, please send them my way. Graduating right now is a nightmare, especially for our seniors who were planning to go into the federal government.

One of my all time favorite lightning strikes. There’s probably some symbolism here but I’ll leave that for you to interpret. #wxsky #photographersunited
