Stéphanie McGuirt's advice on writing:

“A word after a word after a word is power.” —Margaret Atwood

This quote about writing from Anne Dillard:

“True self-care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from.” – Brianna Wiest

Writing Tip: I can never say enough how getting short stories published in anthologies (even small ones) will really help your writing career. You get a little cash, you get some experience, and it helps get the attention of those you're submitting your work to. #writing #writingtips #writesky

"it's just a bad day bro " nah its been 5 years

"Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do consistently." —Marie Forleo

“The way you manage your time is the way others will perceive it. Respect your time, and others will follow suit.”  —Brian Fink thebrianfink.medium.com/respect-your...

Thinking of sharing bits and pieces of information as I find them. • inspirational quotes • facts • learnings • anything as I find them I used to thinking of bundling them together and sending them in one newsletter, but I always end up forgetting.

i like being around people who let me be quiet.

In the witch's garden of writing, ideas are the seeds. Some grow into mighty oaks, others into pesky weeds.

"Even in stillness, there is progress."

When life finally slows down, I want to be more active on Bluesky.

I love bookstores. I love the library. I love books. I love reading.

When I was in college, our literature professor had us read Alexis Abola's "At the ends of the hyphen" for our short story exam. It introduced me to the em dash and I've been obsessed about using it ever since.

All we want to do is to share the things we love with others. So why are we so afraid?

Weekends are for • watching TV series • reading books • catching up on newsletters • relaxing before life gets busy again

Or ice cream.

I'm currently reading The Kamogawa Food Detectives, but when I read it before bed, I just get so HUNGRY. The food descriptions are fabulous. #booksky

Tea or wine or coffee! I'm up for this.

Posted this at the old place, but thought folks on @bsky.app might like to know I finally met my "mother".

“Language urges you to push against what you might think you know, what you might initially be inclined to draw from what you’ve observed, and even what you believe.” —Tracy K. Smith

It's storming outside, but you're in your cozy nook at home, reading your favorite book. What are you reading? #books #booksky

Choose empathy. Read.

My new favorite word: sonder. It's the profound awareness that every person you encounter has experienced a lifetime of hopes, fears, loves, and heartaches that you'll never know. Each moment of sonder is a reminder to appreciate how little we truly grasp about others' lives.

I mean, is bsky just basically a straightforward thing? And only for left-brained stuff? Or can I be dramatic and poetic and whimsical?

My goals for 2025:

Some days are for working in coffee shops.

“First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won't. Habit is persistence in practice.” — Octavia Butler

Or a second cup of your favourite coffee.

Me every single time.

It's that time of the year when my to-do list feels like it has become Hydra: I tick-off one item and two or three more get added in its place.

Why do I feel like people are friendlier here and in Threads? (Compared to X where you try to reach out and everyone just ignores you.)

I need to follow more #writers and #freelancers. Anybody out there?

Right now, I am suffering under the weight of formulas that don't seem to work and all the nitty-gritty details that are popping out now that I'm fine-tuning my digital product. Sigh.

A mantra I'm constantly repeating to myself because I always forget.

Write now. Edit later.

The people of South Korea didn't wait, they showed up. Immediately.

Han Kang’s Nobel Prize speech next week is going to be VERY interesting

I think at one point we all tried sneaking into a wardrobe, hoping to end up in Narnia!

If you’re afraid that books might change someone’s thinking, you’re not afraid of books, you’re afraid of thinking.
