The problem with this statement I actually lost hell a lot of empathy by just reading people’s comments on internet.
You’d better specify what to read.
If it wasn't for booksellers, independent or otherwise, or Amazon and Barnes etc, there wouldn't be another book written because it would not make financial sense to do so. And most published books make very little money. So, both libraries and booksellers have their place.
Noteworthy that on social media, not every response is a clapback. Sometimes it's just a good ole genuine purpose message yelled to the masses, lovingly so.
This sounds familiar. My cousin was there for almost 20; stayed with them to get some discount they give employees after 20 years. Gave notice she’d be “retiring” on the anniversary date, and within a week she was called in and let go. Never written up; nothing but loyal. But there you go.
Oh I forgot to mention that they flew the CEO, James Daunt, out to personally union bust. The flagship store unionized. They then instructed managers in a company wide call to tell workers that BN would not negotiate union contracts, making sure to stress that this was the managers opinion *wink*
BN (well, retail at large really) fires people unfairly all the time. When I worked there they fired a worker after she got her cancer diagnosis. Like within the week
There HAS to be a better option! Their products are awful. I mean expensive is one thing, but their coffee is awful no matter how much stuff you put in.
Support small bookstores and libraries. Ben Franklin reflected on the lending library's crucial role in fostering democracy: “These libraries have improved the general conversation of the Americans” and “made the common tradesmen and farmers as intelligent as most gentlemen from other countries.”
The right is defined by lack of empathy. Learn about sociopaths methods and everything the right does from propaganda methods to hate of social programs is clear and easy to predict.
As a contrarian by nature with a penchant for giving the middle finger to someone telling me what to do, i shall choose to take the opposite approach out of spite.
My local B&N doesn't have Terri Kanefield. I think the children of the US need to know the words of Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, and Tubman. I will start ordering my books through there.
When I used to go to Barnes and Noble I look for books I would enjoy reading, I found none, so that inspired me to write and read my own books, my own stories, and they are told just the way I enjoy reading them in the subjects I find fascinating to me. I'm up to 17 now. Thanks for the inspiration.
Dear white evangelicals ' dear Christian REPUBLICANS can't serve God & TRUMP. Serve God you lose TRUMP & serve TRUMP u lose God .your choice !! Your pick!!
Choose empathy. Read books that can explain why aiding in the deaths of tens of thousands each year means you are a BAD human and do not deserve good things to happen to you.
Amazing how it helps with the understanding of others and their emotional states. I’m guessing it has something to do with the fact that, when you read, you are having to emulate the emotions of others to create a proper narrative.
Last time I was in a Barnes and Noble there was a section stacked high with plastic sticks manufactured from the mind of a raging sexist transphobe priced at like 40 or 60 a pop.
Empathy has to go in both directions, otherwise this is just an invitation to be exploited.
Choose the local booksellers B&N works to shut down. Choose the local booksellers who pay their employees equitably and compete fairly. Choose the local booksellers who don’t shill nazi propaganda like B&N does.
good luck w that. look at those who voted. partly some lack critical thinking skills. they r engrossed in what Fox Propaganda says & what spews out of what to them is Orange Jesus
Trans people matter. Banned books for everyone. A story about a little boy who wants to be a mermaid might teach you something about mermen. Even girls can be a merman.
I always loved going to Barnes and Noble for most of my life. I could spend hours there just meandering and reading.
Any place with books is a precious resource
I'm convinced that for whatever evils capitalism has to offer, perhaps the least pernicious place to invest in capitalism is the bookstore and the encouragement of the system to produce more books in circulation. The worst aspects of capitalism are damaged by knowledge.
READ FOR FREE AT THE LIBRARY GOT TO TRAVEL GOT TO DRIVE GOT TO WARE A COAT IN THE COLD .CONVENIENCE ISSTAY IN THE CONFORT OF YOUR HOME READ 'BARNE AND NOBEL! EMPATHY IS AMERICA. AMERICA IS EMPATHY
As a teacher, my biggest readers are my most empathetic students. Reading forces us to see other perspectives without the ability to interrupt, and provides windows to other cultures, thoughts, and experiences. And yet, every year, there are fewer and fewer students who enjoy reading thanks to tech.
What does reading have to do with empathy? Wouldn't interacting with other humans develop empathy better? This wreaks of pretentiousness, Barnes & Noble
I draw from Marx & Owen. However, like most theories, it should be adjusted to the population, its values, and the current time period. Policy makers should consider other theories when making policy too. It was supposed to be funny cuz it’s in reference to a large corporation trying to connect w us
Fair enough, so a conventional definition. I argue the defining features of unions are not inherently socialist. They may share certain goals such as workers' rights, but they generally operate comfortably within a capitalist framework with no intent to reform it, certainly not in a Marxist sense.
I definitely agree. Unions originated within a capitalistic frame. But I think you’re taking my joke too seriously. I have a degree in legal studies, so if that provides conventional understanding, idk what to tell u. But I wasn’t adding on to the union comment, my reference was independent to it
To make a long story short, reading involves engaging the mind in the viewpoint and experiences of another person—even non fiction has the inherent bias and view of the author—thus, reading helps practice empathy, as empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

And follow through by thoroughly reading each cited work, and their cited works. Or just accept the TLDR; Reading builds empathy.

You’d better specify what to read.
You have a section devoted to black authors. This should not be so difficult. I am specifically looking for YA books!
They do love their book bans, remember?
I suggest this book first.
"cheese empathy"
I'm disappointed, I love cheese

Nonfiction defines the term and prevents hate through authoritarian propaganda
(also i understand what you wrote, but i am appalled that i understand what you wrote)
(We, we zoomers did. Gen Alpha do what little siblings do and ran with it. I am so freaking proud)
Being empathetic sucks!
Can't stand people, they give me the ick. 😂
Choose empathy, read, share, be tolerant,
Empathy has to go in both directions, otherwise this is just an invitation to be exploited.
You're the rich we're going to eat.
Any place with books is a precious resource
Read for free at the library!
Please go buy all of my fiancee's books. We like eating. Lol
Buy all the books so authors can eat. I’m totes for that!
(FWIW, B&N also hires ppl with disabilities & pays fair wage that & authors are the stuff they ought to promote)
And read banned books.
What can you suggest in the memoir theme to bring back my joy of reading.
