I mean, has sci-fi ever been that utopian? There were a few happy decades in the mid 20th century where the World Wars were over and scientists were going to reinvent society. Then the space race ended and the Cold War began, and the genre's remained pretty pessimistic since the 70s, 50 years ago.

I once got detention for not turning up to detention, despite the fact that I had indeed done the detention. I didn't turn up to the second detention - refused to on principal - and nobody ever said anything else about it. Completely got away with it.
