Hey, I’m Dan Rivkin and I’ve been writing about the Beatles’ Get Back sessions since 2012 at theymaybeparted.com. Same guy you’ve seen @theymaybeparted in all the other places.

I’ve said it many times before: The Beatles were very good at not being broken up until they decided to really break up
(and then, they were not very good in cleanly breaking up)

This is when I used to give the hot take the Get Back sessions couldn't have been so bad, they were eager to record again 3 weeks later, held up by legit reasons like tonsils & essential personnel tied up overseas. Not so hot anymore! (and that's OK!)

They probably would have gotten back together even sooner had Billy Preston and Glyn Johns not been out of the country and George Harrison didn't have a tonsillectomy (more on that here: bsky.app/profile/they...)

@trying-to-be-fair.bsky.social, yes, just what @stuefewtrell.bsky.social said about George leaving the group.
I wrote about that day and moment at length here! theymaybeparted.com/2020/08/27/j...

If ever there was a chance for him to make us look wrong it's tonight. No excuse to have the same (or mostly) setlist again, right? Right?? (The fact he's played with this band so long, there really isn't an excuse to turn the list over at least a little night-to-night, except it's not his way)

Q: "Do you have any favorite sport here in America, such as baseball or American football?"
JOHN & RINGO: "We don't like ANY sport."
PAUL: "Very unsporting, really. Smoking is a sport."

Here’s John Lennon “of the original Beatles” in 1974 on the sport of (American) football, telling Howard Cosell: “It makes rock concerts look like tea parties.” 🏈 ☕️ 🥳

Newspapermen and photographers agreed with Ed Sullivan: New York had never witnessed the excitement stirred by the Rutles, also 61 years ago today:
