Some helpful tips for following the awful news out of Minnesota today.

Kudos to NPR for this piece on women’s diaconate—1st-person witness, citation of documents/process, a portrait of the Church/Leo XIV, and steers clear of labeling the Church out of touch or worse (even if a bit true). Refreshing to hear, especially these impressive women! www.npr.org/2025/06/10/n...

Having been to Namugongo and experienced the powerful impact of the place, the thought of a million pilgrims converging for this feast day is a deep joy.

We've collected the joyful media appearances & comments from Fr. Mark Francis, CSV, Provincial, who's enjoyed reflecting on his time with Pope Leo XIV as seminary classmates and peers in Rome serving in leadership of their religious brothers. #AdoredAndLovedBeJesus www.viatorians.com/our-viatoria...

In our Exploring God's Invitation episodes, we go in depth on the ways people came to clearer understanding – both of what God had put before them and the responses they discerned and acted upon. Hear Fr. Jhobany's reflections in Ep. 87 on Spotify, Apple Pods, and YouTube! #AdoredAndLovedBeJesus

Pope to Cardinals on why he chose the name Leo XIV: “There are different reasons for this, but mainly because Pope Leo XIII in his historic Encyclical Rerum Novarum addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution.”

NEW: By electing Pope Leo XIV, some see Vatican making very American political play. Electing Leo, one expert told me, is "a signal here that the church is taking a side in what’s happening around the globe" — namely, against Trump and authoritarianism. religionnews.com/2025/05/08/b...

One of my favorite segments and crossovers of all time. www.npr.org/2025/05/07/n...

The spread between Hispanic Catholics (69% of whom think Trump is a "dangerous dictator") and white Catholics (56% of whom say Trump should be given *more* power to "restore America's greatness") is quite a thing. Also: I am a bit surprised by the *intensity* of the LDS result here.

My thoughts on this discourse: as an extroverted introvert, I need sprinkles of unsolicitedd conversation to draw me out of myself and connect with people. Typically, though, I don’t desire this in open-ended settings and like the finite brackets Mina suggests.

Hey @grammargirl.bsky.social — who decided that the verb “die” can be used in present tense and used that way in headlines?! 😵‍💫

After waking up to the news of Pope Francis’ death, the always-great work of NPR Morning Edition was super helpful for information, reflection, and perspective, not least thanks to the great balance, informedness, and humble humanity of @steveinskeep.bsky.social in his interviews and intros.

This is high art

This week, we celebrate our VYC alumni in committed vocations in the Church and run a quick lap around the province to highlight our youth liturgical leadership and and Fr. Corey's book talk! CATHOLIC STUFF UPDATE: I was in court today as the Catholic bishops argued with the Trump Admin about the White House first suspending, then cancelling, its commitment to pay some $65 million for thousands of refugees newly in the US 1/4

I thought as I come upon the end of eight years of being a stay-at-home parent, I would give myself the same challenge. Here’s a video (and text) post of my Stay-at-Home Parent Era in 3 Photos, plus a presidentesque first month/last month side by side. danmasterton.substack.com/p/my-stay-at...

Some first-hand thoughts on how and why USAID-supported groups like Catholic Relief Services are crucial to justice and humanity. open.substack.com/pub/danmaste...

Wait, no one asked Trump today about the Pope letter or the faith-based lawsuits? SERIOUSLY NO ONE ASKED THE PRESIDENT ABOUTah dadgummit hire more religion reporters

Fr. Querbes desired to start a society of catechists. So what does it mean for Viatorians to be people who TEACH THE FAITH? As it turns out, a lot of things! #AdoredAndLovedBeJesus (This month, our posts explore essential facets of Viatorian identity by digging into our responses to our charism.)

For those keeping track, since taking office, Trump, Musk, Vance and the Trump admin have cast aspersions on and/or cut funds to: * An Episcopal bishop * The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops * Lutheran service groups * A Christian service group * An array of religious groups that aid refugees

I appreciate Adam’s independence and candor all the time, but particularly in this case as a person who is a pilot and veteran and who frequently flew himself from IL to the DMV area while serving in Congressman.

1. A quick thread about what you're seeing here from Charlie Kirk and Vice President Vance (note: multiple falsehoods in these screenshots): Conservative ire directed at religious orgs that aid migrants and resettle refugees has been years in the making, and can trace its origins to the far-right.

In seemingly retaliatory strike toward Vance’s, USCCB says funds for migrant resettlement “are not sufficient to cover the entire cost of these programs." but work with migrants is “faithful to the teaching of Jesus Christ,” and “is a work of mercy and ministry of the Church.”

*David Putty voice* Yeah, that’s right.

This is an inappropriate suspension of a sensible rule, and I have zero trust in this administration to enact justice.

Those who want to insist that this person is a good Christian have a fresh, strong piece of counterevidence to ignore.
