Event at MoCA

We need more pedestrian-focused spaces in Los Angeles. I am happy that they are adding one more at UCLA. www.timeout.com/los-angeles/...

Are there any Los Angeles small business owners here?

Before I start my Monday is for Los Angeles Art theme, I wanted to say how inspired I am by everyone who is looking at alternatives to corporations and voting with their dollars. Supporting small businesses has been at the heart of my project....

This is an upcoming and very relevant event happening at the Wende next month. www.eventbrite.com/e/you-must-t...

I have a lot of community builders in my feed. I saw this job with Friends of the L.A. River. folar.org/opportunities/ (Note: When I post jobs usually someone will send me their resume. I am not the hiring manager. I am just a girl out here in L.A. sharing resources with people.)

I never liked air bnb, but this doesn't help me like them more. When I plan travel for folks, I avoid them, and maybe you should too. www.latimes.com/california/s...

How I have curated a sane feed on social media I follow Angelenos, artists, book nerds, art lovers, and small businesses I don’t follow people who hate things I don’t follow people with too many numbers in their names (bot formulas) *I do check to see if any of those people post things first 1/2

I am taking a moment to get used to 🦋 Monday is usually my #art focus. I just want to say that I would love it if any #LosAngeles museum brings Forothermore here. visit.mcachicago.org/exhibitions/...

If you only get two things from this account, I want it to be this: How to get out of your house and explore Los Angeles How to vote with your dollars by supporting local businesses.

With news of ICE in Burbank, I am sharing this. Don't sign anything Don't say anything Agents aren't allowed in private/staff-only areas

ISO people who post about Los Angeles, artists, small business owners/supporters, community builders, urban planners, museum lovers, and generally post about things they love.

As more fires break out across L.A., remember there are large and small ways to help. In the post, you will find a list of resources. It has volunteer opportunities, organizations to give money to, and places to donate a meal right now. thisuglybeautifulcity.substack.com/p/los-angele...

I spent my 19 year LA anniversary putting together a comprehensive list of resources for wildfire relief. I love this city. Find ways to donate and support those supporting others. bit.ly/3EfQUMf

The deadline is soon for this event.

I found my new hobby for the next few years. www.badasscrossstitch.com

We'll be talking to tenants' rights attorney Jacob Woocher at 4pm about rental price gouging and what everyday LA people can do about it. 📍 Where: Our IG Live ⏰ When: 4pm PST Have you seen rental price gouging?

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of staff and visitors, we will continue to keep the museum closed through Friday, January 17, re-opening on Saturday, January 18. Please visit hammer.ucla.edu or our social media accounts for the most up-to-date information on our hours.

Several of Los Angeles businesses are offering food, a place to charge your devices, and rest. Here is a post from Fat + Flour, Culver City Location

With media and tech giants kowtowing to the incoming administration, now is the time to support our local LA media. (If you aren't already) All of these rely on donations to keep reporting. LA Taco https://buff.ly/3Pqvq1D LA Public Press https://buff.ly/3PHNt2E

Stay safe out there, look through this thread for reminders on evacuation zones, packing go bags, and where to get updates. Sources: fire.ca.gov, LAFD, LACOFD

I want to share this, but I need to get used to the minimal character count. Pet-friendly hotels in order of friendliest. In case of evac. Kimpton W Hotel Palisociety Line Hotels

Sharing information and resources for the Los Angeles fires as I come across it.

Los Angeles resolutions: Read more about Los Angeles. This is a great book pairing. First Read: Laurel Canyon by Michael Walker Then Read: We've Got The Neutron Bomb by Marc Spitz and Brendan Mullen #losangeles #books

I was featured in Monday's issue of Shoutout LA. In it, I talk about how I started This Ugly Beautiful City and my new website with recommendations for other cities around the world. I sometimes have a bit of imposter syndrome writing as an expert on L.A.

Monday is for Museums, Art, Galleries and calls for artists. This is the last week to see Breath(e) at the Hammer. This is part of PST and explores the changing climate through art. Note: there are live bees as part of a installation piece in case allergies

I know I for one am going to make it a point to disconnect more. I bought a journal for the first time in forever and I have a lot of physical books just sitting there unread

Tuesday is for travel. I am a travel advisor. My 1 piece of advice is to find your passport now and see when it expires. If it expires in a year or less from now, make a plan to get it renewed. Starting January 8th, the UK is requiring a travel visa called the UK ETA The EU will have one too. 1/2

Tuesday is for travel. Now is the best time to be in Los Angeles. This is when a large number of our population leaves the city for the holidays. It is the best time to get those hard-to-get restaurant reservations, see exhibits with fewer people, and the end of the year has a series of low tides.

Monday is for Art, Artists, Museums, and calls for artists. If you need any more reasons to love the @lapubliclibrary.bsky.social, they have a Creator in Residence Program. It isn't medium-specific and is a $20K stipend. Applications are open now. #Artists https://buff.ly/3ZCsdkr

Monday is for art & amusement parks. L.A. got the 1st look, but Luna Luna is now in New York. I recommend you see it. Luna Luna was an open-air fun fair curated by artist André Helle that opened to the public in 1987. All the rides were designed by contemporary artists.

I am not going to dedicate my Bluesky account to Los Angeles specifically. I am going to use it for things I am excited about everywhere. It will have a lot of Los Angeles content, but I am excited to talk about other cities using the same lens of art, food, and small businesses.

Fun fact: supporting local journalism is now cheaper than a burrito. What are you waiting for? Sign up! Lataco.com/join

I'm Kristen. I write about Los Angeles, featuring things that make it a unique place. I highlight small businesses and give dozens of ideas for exploring this multi-layered city. I am also a travel agent (I think of myself more of a travel curator) who writes about art & food.

I just found out that one of my favorite artists Ericka Lopez has an exhibit on view at the University of Michigan until Friday. Lopez is a blind artist that encourages you to touch her art. She places beads and other trinkets for you to discover with your hands.
