Happy first Sunday as a wandering priest! I have walked to church, whispered morning prayer, and am enjoying watching other people bustling about to make the liturgy happen. Looking forward to Tallis’ O Nata Lux.

New workspace bookshelves snapshot.

Watching my partner submit a US tax form which, even having paid someone to fill in for him, still requires printing, signing, scanning and uploading. All of this still takes longer than the 5 minutes it takes me to submit my taxes through the UK government’s click-through online form. Madness.

Ruth Worsley to be Bishop of Wigan and Acting Bishop of Liverpool. That is very good news.

Courage calls to courage everywhere.

The suggestion that freedom is ethical because it minimises coercion is utterly absurd from a theological perspective. Freedom from restraint has always empowered the wealthy to coerce the poor. Freedom to(…) is a very different ethical concept.

No more greenwashing. Fed up of it.

Finally sitting down with John Holloway’s “Change the World Without Taking Power” and the first few pages are simply wonderful. I can see why people are so taken with it!

First day between jobs and much creative destruction is being done. In other news… Microclimate.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me these three years at Southwark Cathedral. A valedictory sermon, "Christian theology is allergic to binaries" felt a suitably Southwark way to say goodbye! seasonalreflectivedisordered.wordpress.com/2025/02/23/c...

Ugh, Piero della Francesca sliding into my DMs again with his unsolicited diptychs.

Day gently made by a photographer in Borough Market who stopped me on the way to lunch, saying, “I love your presentation,” and took my picture. Not quite the same as members of the public feeling compelled to tell me I am handsome, but well presented I will take.

Farewell sermon drafted. 🥲😭🥲 Not all of it is the General Melchett school of preaching.

is no longer a parish priest. God bless you, amazing St Hughs!

Total bangers. And an appropriate if brutal reading from Jeremiah as I say farewell to St Hugh’s Bermondsey tomorrow. Please pray for them and me! @se1.news

A gentle reminder that the majority of the people in the world who live with HIV are not gay men in the global north; that public health is something that concerns us all; and that getting tested for infectious diseases and promoting sexual health is a totally normal thing to do.

I thought that listening to Maxell-Davies' "Farewell to Stromness" would exorcise the earworm. In fact it has amplified it. And it is so stunning that I actually am fine with that.

General synod has a strange culture of directing discernment to be done, to find out the will of the church institutions before following them. I’d much rather see the legislature decide what it wants to happen and directing the church institutions to implement its will. Less leadership avoidance.

Tonight is my last sung service with one half of our choristers, and I am really going to miss them. But Leighton Responses, Stanford in C and Pacey’s Ubi Caritas will be fabulous.

Gosh. This is an England squad to watch as they grow up and develop.

Today's earworm. Before the Throne of God Above. Such a banger.

Day two of the three day post #autistic shutdown hangover. Morning prayer may have happened at lunchtime, but it included Bel and the Dragon. Hurrah!

There are enough things in the world doing this right now without @duolingoverde.bsky.social doing it as well!

No thank you, extra charge for AI.

Without downloading any new pictures, where are you at, mentally?

Filled in a university questionnaire whilst having my morning coffee that was aimed at autistic people. And part-way through the good-bad scale of the checkbox answers changed direction. Physically shaken by the horror. Did I win the game?

The University of Galway is doing research on Autistic Burnout. It's a 10 minute questionnaire. "For this study Áine is interested in identifying and assessing the combination of energy depleting demands which Autistic people experience to help clinicians devise effective preventive interventions.

Happy not-January-anymore to one and all.

This airborne Silent Witness episode is dreadful. Three times thus far they’ve said they need to get a patient on the ground and then immediately after they’ve gone, “Never mind, he might make it.” Also, ring a doctor My disbelief is no longer suspended but dragged face-down along the ground.

I have now been to @stnicholasleics.bsky.social albeit sneakily with @yrieithydd.bsky.social

Remember, if you are demoralised because you feel like you are bad at your job, even a rubbish king can also be a saint, and even someone on the scaffold can pray for their enemies. Joining @mthrjo.bsky.social in the school of “everyone was a jerk, he was a bad king, still a martyr”. #CofEPeeps ⚓️

Am I alone in just VISCERALLY not wanting to publish my work in journals which would charge the people I am actually writing to benefit an absurd amount of money to access my work? #academicsky

This Holocaust Memorial Day, I have been praying for all who bear the legacy of the genocides of the 20th Century, for all who know tyranny, hatred and oppression in our own days, and for all who wage it. Lord, have mercy. Set us free.
