I hope the engineer hiding inside of you occasionally looks at your wagon and says to himself, "man, wouldn't a lower coefficient of drag be more prideful?" The wagon practicality is nice to have, sometimes, but the best car is a car at 100% occupancy using the least energy to move.

The sales pitch of BTRFS and spinning down my NAS disks when not in use hasn't really borne out the expected savings ...

Oh. Yeah. 💯. Shocking the Korean chaebol isn't customer-focused. /s Just like equivalent family-run monopolies that are vertically integrated in the US, EU, et. al aren't customer focused. Nor are small startups. None of them care about their customers. They care about their profit margin.

But, let's be honest. Have you met users? I'm a user. Am idiot. Would click button that reduces range by heating battery to charge faster. Would shit talk car manufacturer for inconsistent range. I joke, but I'm also totally serious! 2/2

I re-read your message and got your point. Yeah. Preconditioning without navigating was a mess/impossible in my M3P as well. Rivian forums suggested it was only going to be possible when navigating to a DCFC as well. It seems a little silly to not let users make the choice. 1/2

I've got manual preconditioning in the app that I used a few times. Bear in mind this is in the 2025 model. You have to click on the charging bar whilst plugged in to reach this screen.

💯 agree. I want auto lock walk away toggle; auto power off toggle. I'll happy shut up with those two! Also, bad news, in ten years? No power button cost per 100k cars < power button cost per 100k cars. This is an arguable point and I'll be happy whether right or wrong!

Are you me? Don't predict what I have to say like that you funny video man! Reach out on the side if you'd ever like to nerd out with my evcc.io deployment to work with my solar, battery, and Tesla Wall Charger to only charge on PV without a single unified brand system.

The passenger door is locked and will not unlock. I have to walk to the driver door (opposite the charger), open it, and reach through the steering wheel to hit the power button. Us users are just holding it wrong. Stupid users. 😆 2/2

Ok! I agree! I have one use case for you! Remember I sold my silly M3P and live with my I5. I get out of the car in the garage, walk to the charger and plug in. Car, meanwhile, beep screams! I put it into park but I didn't hit the redundant power button and now the car is screaming. 1/2

Can I just whine about sending a 'lock request' to my car for 20 seconds-2 minutes?? Screaming internally!

Ok bud you and I see eye to eye. "Do what I want you to do, I am the user" is a mantra for me. If I could ever convince you that a car that's just on when you're in it and off when you're not is BETTER then you would already be convinced. But it is! ;) Hyundai's app is a pale imitation, agree!

I'd love to show you my self hosted evcc deployment for my solar panels and my L2 charger. The Ioniq 5 is the better CAR. Tesla has the better technology... Suite? Ecosystem? I'm glad to be rid of it. Thanks for the nuance and the conversation.

This is SO TOUGH! So much nuance! In 140 characters, I agree. I guess we all have thoughts and prayers for IONNA now, right? It's so so so frustrating to think about as of March '25 in the US as an EV owner and evangelist.

I agree! I thought that too. When my moral scruples said I needed to leave ICE, supercharger native made sense to avoid the sub. (a la Apple, which I don't partake). I hope other businesses own the charger network business one day. But in the US? Today? I voted with my $ now! Thanks for all you do

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a pretty good vehicle in 2025. It truly sucks to have so few sedans available in 2025 as EVs. Most people do not need a crossover and would benefit from the CoD of an aerodynamic sedan or coupe.
comment in response to post
I'm thankful for the new vehicle, but I'm not going to celebrate the gigantic corporation for selling me a product. If I was going to own this vehicle, the subscription paywalls would be offensive. But I'm leasing it and then going to ditch it. The dealer network is hapless and anti-consumer.

I credit Hyundai for getting NACS added. I wish companies had held off and not joined the NACS Standard once it was SAE'd, but here we are. The MPGe and coefficient of drag on the I5 is so sad compared to the M3P. I don't need a crossover. But the I6 just isn't there yet.
comment in response to post
The I5 is a good vehicle. Its build quality and fit/finish is better so far than the Tesla. It is NOT a luxury vehicle, and not was the M3P. There's so much hopeless plastic in the silly I5. Truly, the app is indefensible compared to the Tesla app.

Owned a '22 M3P. Sold shortly after the salute. Leased a '25 Ioniq 5. Cons: WHY IS THERE A POWER BUTTON? WHY DOESN'T IT LOCK WHEN I WALK AWAY? Why is the app so bad? Why is the regen so much worse? Non-dash headunit sucks (yet better than the '22-24)! Crossover 🤮. MPGe. Good vehicle. I like it. 🧵

Funny story about private interests controlling popular media. That aside, you've got the natural outcomes of the mass media movements ... And, after Citizens United, my amount of speech can be measured against your amount of speech. The average citizen has no voice that can be heard.

Drove down to your NYC office and interviewed for an internship in ~2011 just after graduation. Didn't get it, which was fine because I pivoted to martech. Hopefully you can find someone at that salary. I still enjoy your website from a civics perspective.

This is actually a better recording/image of the phenomenon than currently exists on the Wikipedia page. I would love to see this video placed on Wikimedia Commons and shared on the Wikipedia page here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsun.
