I think that the general population actually has no idea the amount that AWS effects their every day life. I certainly didn't understand the scope of it til I started working at a company that did a lot of could stuff.

As someone who also started reading the books cause of the show I'm always so impressed in the way they take really interesting world building and present it in digestible amounts to make sure that the story line makes sense! I'm not generally a high fantasy person but it made it accessible!

I taught preschool in Japan and once had parents complain about a t-shirt I wore that "made my boobs look too big" -- it was literally one of those big baggy generic unisex tshirts with the high neckline.
