Tolkien “I will describe this spooky forest down to the smallest twig” Jordan “I will describe the dress Elayne Trakand Daughter-heir of Andor is wearing in this particular scene down to the smallest stitch.”

The level of detail he put into those books was incredible. There’s entire tangents on styles of clothing. He outdid Tolkien on worldbuilding at points I feel.

This particular model is difficult to run at slow speed. It has an older style AC motor, rather than a DC can motor with a reverse board. I was also juggling the transformer controls and my phone camera so it was a bit tricky.

Wait until you get to the part where Moraine tears the Three Rivers folk a new one on being bigots by using her knowledge of their history. One of the best speeches in fantasy literature.

I meant to say, “feel like you are the Dragon Reborn.” My grammar goes to hell when I’m up late.

By the middle of the series you’ll feel you are going as mad as Rand is. By the end you feel like are the Dragon Reborn. That’s the best description I have. Also highly recommend the Stormlight Archive.

And the future’s just begun./For you sowed the seeds of freedom in your daughters and your sons! I do have to think the reference to children is metaphorical here, probably referring to the art itself. It’s a hopeful song either way, and I hope it helps a bit.

Posted this song because I feel like it has a message about why making art is important, because it adds beauty to an often frightening world. “And now your music’s playing/and your writing’s on the wall/and all the dreams you’ve painted can be seen by one and all./now you’ve got them thinking/

I’m picturing the comic book version of ZOLA saying this, which means this speech is being given by a walking robot CRT TV with a German..sorry…Swiss accent.

I was so disappointed when that changed! I thought it was a great idea to make inspiration a reaction.

This is a hilarious thread because I think I missed some context clues or just regard Columbus that low that I’m more concerned about the accuracy of information on the inventor of boxed and canned pasta than him.

Or did you mean Columbus?

No multiple night dreams but the novel I’m writing was inspired by a vivid dream I had when I was 16 of dragons flying towards a modern skyscraper for a rescue mission.

Also as someone who has some Italian American ancestry, the Columbus hero worship by Italian Americans is the absolute worst. Like seriously find someone else. Frank Sinatra, even Hector Borardi for crying out loud! Columbus doesn’t deserve the honor.

Sir Terry Pratchett summed it up nicely by saying “In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods and they haven’t forgotten that.”
