As @michaelhobbes.bsky.social notes, the compromise position most liberals want to see on trans issues is already the default. Kids go to counseling long before they socially transition, they socially transition long before starting puberty blockers, etc. Almost no minors get surgical interventions

However it seems that in this case the solution could have been simpler:
1) Make sure conventional backup power acts as promised
2) Change the rules for turning off solar when over- or under-voltage occurs, so solar doesn't turn off all at once

A lot of people have speculated at what this means. I myself have stated that we need more batteries and grid forming transformers that can stabilize the grid much better than the conventional inertia and voltage control that failed here.
