He had a down year, but is actually an above average hitter overall for his career (112 OPS+). The Tigers have improved their offense, but their infield defense will likely be poor no matter how they set it up.

Player B probably has more value as a multiple position guy, so it's not a direct comparison. However, I would agree that Player A is pobably not a substanial upgrade over some combo of player B, Ibanez and Jung at third.

Whitaker, Grich and Kent for sure. I don't know about White though. White was a better defender, but Pedroia was good too and Pedroia was a much better hitter.

I think an undefeated team deserves a shot to prove that they are for real. The three loss team might be the better team, but they had their chance to prove themselves already.

There are not too many pro teams. There are too may pro teams in the playoffs...In the current setup, a MAC team that goes undefeated would probably make the playoffs. That seems fair to me.
