Equally Israel won’t be being asked to repay any of the vast military support given to it by Washington.

And Donald Trump is the archetypal moron.

The shortsightedness of Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving! What price on sovereignty now?

As if it ever really existed apart from in the minds of politicians! Israel is the only country that enjoys a special relationship with the US and it has had one ever since 1948 because wealthy Jewish donors are what really make America tick.

I wouldn’t give up hope yet as there are four teams within four points although Derby have played more games than the others. I admit their current form isn’t good but if Eustace is able to turn things around quite quickly he still has thirteen games left in which to keep them up. 🤞

It looks like they could do with somebody like him back there now before it’s too late. As you know, one of his old clubs put Derby to the sword last night.

Wasn’t he the bald eagle who had a prolific managerial career at a number of clubs? He always came across a really nice guy who knew his job well.

I’m old enough to remember the great Derby teams of the early seventies crammed with class players like Kevin Hector, Francis Lee, Bruce Rioch, Colin Todd, Archie Gemmill, John McGovern and Roy McFarland playing at the old Baseball Ground. Sadly it all seems like such distant memories now.

Well said Mimi J. It all goes to show what a disaster Brexit is. Our true allies are Europeans and America under Trump can never be trusted or relied upon.

Definitely all smoke and mirrors.

Rafael is a brilliant journalist whose columns are always insightful and well-reasoned. His other main strength is that he manages to produce these great narratives without ever showing any hint of political bias.

The Spaniards and French have clearly seen the light. Good on them and long may it continue.

You can still guarantee that Starmer will suck up to Trump and grant him another state visit. At least poor old Queen Elizabeth won’t have to put up with hosting this moron for a second time. It’s over to you Camilla!

Congratulations on what is, in my opinion, your best article of 2025 yet.

I wouldn’t touch either of these brands as they both contain far too much vegetable fat and not enough cocoa. Besides Galaxy is owned by Mars and Cadbury by Kraft which means that the money spent by British people on all these bars of poor quality chocolate effectively ends up in American coffers.
comment in response to post
It clearly masquerades as chocolate but I very much doubt that its ingredients would meet the EU’s standards of what constitutes proper chocolate.

As are Trump and Musk!

As tasteless as Trump himself!

America produces nothing worth buying. Teslas are vastly overpriced and nothing special, Jack Daniels is inferior to Scotch whisky and Hersheys is inferior to Belgian or Swiss chocolate. They do a nice line in hormone treated beef and chlorinated chicken but sadly we can’t buy this over here yet.

No choice. The latter is stable and dependable whereas the other is unpredictable and run by two narcissistic, fascist megalomaniacs. Besides, the quality of European goods is infinitely better than American equivalents and that’s precisely why the US has such a massive trade deficit with the EU.

The fact that he was Johnson’s appointee says it all and so nobody should have expected any better.

I agree with you 100%. The only problem is that we have to suffer another four years of their pussyfooting around for alternative sources of growth whilst the UK economy declines even further.

She needs to hurry up and join Reform as it’s where her heart truly belongs.
comment in response to post
But unfortunately the man with an impossible vision for growth won’t. He is a person about to drown because his hands are tied together on the wheel of Brexit.

But crushed by who? Out of the four main parties only the LibDems have their eyes open to the harsh reality of Brexit and acknowledging the damage it continues to do to our country. Putting them aside, that only leaves the two unpalatable options of the discredited Conservatives and Reform UK. Ugh!
