Things which are not like living next to a motorway: A school cycle track

Map of the actual size of each country

As atrocities and the aid blockade continue in #Gaza, hundreds of thousands of people are being repeatedly displaced. Shelters are overcrowded. People are left with nothing. "A message to the whole world," pleads one Palestinian woman: "Open the crossings for us." Watch. 🔽

I'd prefer not to be hit in the first place. Why is absolutely everything about enabling and mitigating for incompetent driving?

My Dad's cousin Frank, from Blackburn Lancashire, got married in the 60s in Singapore and honeymooned in Malaysia. He met and married Joan from Liverpool there at work. Who does that in the 60s? The likes of John Lennon and my Uncle Frank & Auntie Joan?! Now aged 86 & 89, they are absolute legends!

We are committed to stand with the trans community, whatever it takes. Will you join us? goodlawproject.org/crowdfunder/...

and he was allowed to be driving again just two days later.

There isn't a story on the BBC News site about today's trans rights rally at Parliament Square where it's estimated 20k attended. But they did have a story last week about the Let Women Speak transphobe rally in Bristol where 100 people attended.

Narrator: It won't.

Imagine a media in which a pedestrian who gets run over receives the level of in-depth, sympathetic coverage as a car owner who got a parking ticket.

1.3m people with cancer, arthritis and more could lose PIP under Labour's benefit cuts. We are all one accident/illness away from needing benefits. It is in our own interest to oppose. It wasn't in the manifesto. Mobilize your MP to oppose this cruel cut. Tax the rich.

"But we Amsterdam" Neither was Amsterdam.

The Government's negotiations over a 'migrant returns deal' is nothing but game-playing with people's lives. We don't need posturing, we need compassion. The way to stop the boats is to open safe and legal routes.

My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"? Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...

No car? No worries! IKEA Utrecht started a pilot in which customers can rent an electric cargo bike, four-wheeler with storage box or bike trailer to transport their purchases home, without needing a car. If the pilot proves a succes, it will be expanded to the rest of the country. 🚲 📦 👌🏼

Birmingham, it's time! #WorkplaceParkingLevy #Transport #BeMoreNottingham

You know the country is in trouble when the future king has a half half scarf.

I’ve always been perplexed by people who need to leave the planet in order to realise how precious and beautiful it is.

Following the success of our first Circle the City monthly cycle ride, our next one is on the 2nd May! 🚲 Details - Start: Friday 2 May 2025 • 18.00 Victoria Square, Birmingham, B1 1BD All ages and abilities are welcome. Please join us! 🔗 actionnetwork.org/events/circl...

No-one wants to cycle in the winter in England, too cold...

The Good Friday Agreement was signed 27 years ago today. It was an act of delicate diplomacy, which delivered peace and security to a part of our country where those qualities had long been absent. Those achievements should never be taken for granted.

"The 20 mph legislation in Wales cost approximately £32 million. However, it was estimated in the first year alone that the direct cost savings from reduced road traffic casualties would amount to three times the initial implementation costs (£92 million)."

Yep: Researchers commissioned by TfL found that 78% of disabled people are able to cycle. And 64% of respondents to a 2021 @wheelsforwellbeing.org.uk survey reported that, for them, cycling is easier than walking. The notion that no disabled people can cycle, do cycle or want to cycle is a myth.

This point closure on a Quiet Lane in Tameside shows what's possible if you are serious about making rural roads safer, more enjoyable and *quieter* for non-motorised users and residents. Hint hint, Stockport Council.

The best time to build #SocialHousing for #SocialRent was 15 years ago, the next best time is now www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

We all knew yep that the rot would stop with a Dolan header? 🤣 #Rovers 🔵⚪🌹

Yep, gentle bell helps lots but if cycling u have to assume any walkers or runners will not hear it now as most have headphones in. Could have collided with 3 people walking or running in last two commutes if didn't go super slow and assume they hadn't heard repeated bell. Peds have priority 👍

Did I mention I have a substack? lauralaker.substack.com/p/cyclists-d...
