Me, every time I look at the news...

Amazing ego-deflating moment yesterday at lunch. Staff member comes over. ‘I think we have one of your books in the office.’ Me (smugly flattered): that’s entirely possible. He: yes, you left it here last time you visited.

“"We cannot get out. The end comes ...honks, honks in the deep ...they are coming"

Have been greatly enjoying trying to improve my French with French comic books so far this year. Full of useful tips, like what to say when you punch someone...

The most important thread you'll read today. In brief: Europe has the power to save Ukraine and slip into the leadership position America has vacated. It must grasp it. And Europeans must pressure their governments to do so.

#medsky#pedsky#idsky#immunosky 🧪 In the midst of all of the scary headlines recently, I thought I could take a moment to share a bit of good news: for the first time in history, a malaria vaccine with >90% efficacy seems to be within reach! Here’s why that’s a really big deal for EVERYONE 🧵

Pressure is my go to term in teaching as well, it's a useful catch-all for the reasons this thread describes. "How does the world put pressure on the characters?" is the question we return to again and again (along with, of course "how do the characters respond to that pressure?").

Werner Herzog should do a film based on the bitcoin skip man. Just two hours of him ploughing through rubbish; bare hands; screaming and gibbering. No speech. Like ‘Elephant’ by Alan Clarke. ‘A gruelling experience’ etc.

The London Library Emerging Writers programme is such a brilliant scheme. If you’re trying to write in any medium/genre, are any age over 18, are in or near London, and aren’t yet professionally published, it’s well worth applying.

Hardly new info, but BSky should know: Warsaw's water quality is monitored by eight clams with magnets attached to their shells. If contamination in the water causes the clams to close, the magnets trigger an alarm and shut off the city's water supply. Thank you, little guardian molluscs. 🧪🌏🚰

On the other hand, all the fantasy books I've read have taught me that Rangers will always rebel and resist tyranny, Chaotic Good all the way.

The quiet beginning of the greatest thread yet to appear on this site. How this turned into an extended riff on Stephen Maturin smuggling a stegosaurus on board the HMS Sophie is a thing of beauty. Actually spat out my tea. Chapeau!!!
