A minor stylistic preference I’ve recently found myself using: When introducing a key initialism or acronym in a paper, put the compressed version in the text and its expansion in parentheses. Instead of ‘under missing at random (MAR)’, use ‘under MAR (missing at random)’. 1/

At the end of every written exam we ask students to rate the exam on two items, one of them being "I had sufficient time to answer the questions", and it took me surprisingly long to realize how this is an amazing example for the outcome itself leading to missing data.

The flaw with this reasoning, as I see it, is the assumption that new metrics can be a solution. When the real problem is the systemic issue of incentivising shortcuts because people aren't being given the time to do the job. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

After two years of trying to avoid this discussion, I just necroed *that thread* on datamethods (discourse.datamethods.org/t/should-one...) in order to share an excellent preprint by philosopher Veli-Pekka Parkkinen (philsci-archive.pitt.edu/24785/1/efme...)

Genuinely just caught myself thinking ‘Can it really be 1st April already?’ 🤡

Weird how people pronounce QALY and DALY differently

Nice thread. @christopherjarvis.bsky.social any thoughts?

Here’s a new one: I was invited to do an interesting sounding review a few weeks ago. Just had a reminder email: ‘On , you kindly agreed to review the above manuscript for […] Unfortunately, we have not yet received your review which was due on NULL.’ Actually I forgot & never kindly agreed!
