One million excess deaths were linked to #deprivation between 2009 and 2020, says Professor Sir @michaelmarmot.bsky.social Marmot calculated 148 000 can be directly linked to #austerity measures introduced by the coalition government in 2010 @bmj.com www.bmj.com/content/389/...

In a world where GP is bashed, a lot, @timsenior.bsky.social finds the value bjgp.org/content/75/7... This line in particular got me: The consultations I have had with these patients aren’t consultations of 15 or 30 minutes. They are consultations of 2, 5, 10 years, split up into 15-minute chunks.

Wow. Curious to hear what GPs and patients think about this?👇🏾 @timsenior.bsky.social @kangaroobeach.bsky.social @lizsturgiss.bsky.social @karenmagraith.bsky.social @brookmanknight.bsky.social @racgp.bsky.social www.afr.com/politics/fed...

I've worked in the same clinic for 20 years now. I never thought I'd be in one place for so long. I had a few thoughts on being a GP for a long time in the @bjgp.bsky.social bjgplife.com/how-long-doe...

Timely call to act on child poverty. Dr Louis Peachey: "We are more frightened that we may give a benefit to a parent we consider undeserving than the consequences of letting their child grow up in poverty. Child poverty shames and diminishes us all." www.croakey.org/a-timely-cal... #SDOH #AusPol

I can't read this article, because paywall, but I can read The Guardian, because not paywall, so who knows?

Truly wish the world's media could be even half as outraged at Israel's extermination of the Palestinian people, as they are at trade tariffs.

Things that *should* be a big issue in the Australian election but sadly won't be: - Climate change (even though our election was delayed by massive floods) - Indigenous rights - Inequality - Poverty - Our treatment of asylum seekers - {NEW!} Our relationship with the US

Hello new followers. It's a while since I've posted. But we have an election coming up in Australia (yeah, rmember them America?). Health is going to be a big issue in the election - well, how much people pay to see a GP is going to be a big issue in the election - so I'll try to post a bit more.

Hey, yeah, you should write something for the GP Life blog/journal @bjgp.bsky.social

A wonderful @bjgp.bsky.social conference last week. Loads of great ideas for articles shared. bjgplife.com/write-for-bj... fyi @euanlawson.social @nadakhan.bsky.social @sammerriel.bsky.social @drtomround.bsky.social @timsenior.bsky.social

Good luck researching head trauma/ traumatic brain injury/ blunt trauma.

#evidencebasedmedicine under threat with partial inclusion and reporting embeddding scientific bias and political interests above population health

I'm sure I'm not the only person to post this, but it does seem relevant *right now*.

We've got repeated claims in Australia of $8bn of Medicare fraud, which are totally wrong, but that doesn't matter if it can be grist to this particular mill

The Australian equivalent might be Jacinta Price accessing Medicare and Centrelink payment systems

Today is National Viola Day (I don't know which country - it should be wherever you are right now!) This gives me a great excuse to remember the beautiful piece I commissioned during the COVID lockdowns, played amazingly by Katie Yap. www.youtube.com/watc...

Do have a read of this by my friend @mariamtokhi.bsky.social

And that's a wrap from us this week. The @croakeynews.bsky.social bulletin has hit the e-streets. www.croakey.org Subscriptions available here: www.croakey.org/subscribe-to...

Ah ha ha ha ha 😂😂 Good one. No... Wait...... What?

The first female President of the US!

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Heartbreaking thread

In which I wonder about the importance of patient stories, when everyone is wanting coding and validated scoring tools for @bjgp.bsky.social bjgplife.com/medrecords/

I have to tell you, @croakeynews.bsky.social and @melissasweetdr.bsky.social have been wonderful at allowing me to write about my Churchill Fellowship visiting Deep End GPs. You can read all the articles here: www.croakey.org/category/cro...
