Carbide & Carbon is one of Chicago’s best examples of Art Deco architecture. Legend has it that C&C was designed to resemble a champagne bottle...perhaps a nod to the ostentatiousness of the roaring 20's. It opened in 1929, so the "party" didn't last long even though the architecture endured.
