This would've been funny if I'd read The Onion before the non-fake news.

I've done well at avoiding it this week, but I went and checked the news at lunch. Dammit. I'm going outside to touch grass.

I was more patient this time and waited until we had 5 gallons of maple sap before simmering it into syrup.

I guess we’ll never know.

I was told to tap my Norway maple in late January, earlier than other maple trees. I got just over 1 gal of sap in the 1st 2 weeks, but then we had a warm spell and the tree didn't produce any. Then it got below freezing last night. Today there was almost a gallon of sap in the bucket.

If you had these on your bike as a kid, high-fives all around.

This makes the radar face make so much more sense…

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references. Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

Small secrets.

I... Made... Maple... Syrup! Look at it! All 1.5 oz of it! Okay, I should have waited until I had collected more sap, but I was too anxious to see how it tastes. And it tastes fantastic!

My kids and I tapped our maple trees. We're going to try making syrup!

My wife gave me a scroll saw for Christmas and asked me to make some mountain-inspired art. I used poplar and red oak from Lowe's, and whatever wood was in the round frame from Hobby Lobby.

Wait... No caffeine with ADHD meds? That's like driving a car with half the wheels. Even my Dr drinks caffeine with his Adderall

My maple syrup tapping kit just arrived. I'm so excited to see what my 3 big maples can do.

Every morning I take my dog outside so she can 3D-print something horrible.

With his precise, simple, texturen illustrations, Ryo Takemasa is the heir of a rich tradition of Japanese illustration. A keen traveler, and with a touch of Tintin about his work, he has the ability for conjuring a sense of place: not just place, but the sense of a certain place at a certain time.

I love a good Twilight Zone spoof. The only problem is, now I want to rewatch the original Twilight Zone again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAUL...

Wow. Amazing how Buddhist poets over 2000 years ago perfectly anticipated social media

I convinced my son to watch Son of Godzilla last night, and we had a blast roasting it. Now he wants to watch more classic Godzilla movies. #ParentingWin

This is a great tip! I have ADHD, and used to be a software engineer (now product management). Be sure to read @mekka.mekka-tech.com's comment in his post. It's gold. I still work like an engineer (breakdown tasks; regularly schedule short meetings to keep me accountable, etc)

Can small, seemingly low-value activities make a big difference? At work, I’m testing if low-value software improvements can reduce customer churn. Meanwhile, NZ is cutting science funding for anything without an obvious economic payoff. Opposite experiments, fascinating stakes. bit.ly/3VFT3qG

I have so many to-do lists scattered around my desk! It makes me happy to look at them and remember feeling productive when I wrote them. I don't actually read them. Making lists is just a great way to feel productive when I'm procrastinating.

Update on my post from April -- not only am I watching more @theonion.com videos on YouTube and visiting their website more, but with their Infowars purchase I'm having conversations that start with, "Did you hear what The Onion did?" 👍🧅

You know how Cartoon Network repurposed Space Ghost into an absurdist talk show? I hope @theonion.com is planning something similar for Infowars
