Major events in human history are often driven by incredible assholes, just monstrous douchebags with ego problems that cause them to float through the world committing atrocities and cheering themselves onwards. Nate Silver should both read better books and go to therapy.

In all seriousness they have the Porter-Phelps family papers and I have the bones of an article on Moses and Elizabeth Porter's letters before his death that I'd like to flesh out. Really the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in the archives, but needs to be completed with the rest of them

I need to find a day to spend at UMass Amherst's Special Collections library.

Klanpa and Confederate Pete are doing a racist purge of the military.

Running thread of people trying to normalize the sieg heil. It's not an "Elon gesture", it's not autism, it's not your heart going out, it's not parody or trolling. It's fucking despicable. Don't ever let this shit become normal. Fuck any excuse given, there is none. Zero tolerance. 1. Elon Musk

1/ Town halls continue to go badly for GOP congresspeople, an ongoing thread: www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2Pc7F6y/

The world is riddled with maggots, the maggots are getting fat They're making a tasty meal of all the bosses and bureaucrats They're taking over the boardrooms and they're fat and full of pride

The New Deal is one of the single greatest achievements in this country's history. A massive, society changing investment in the public, directly and indirectly. Parks, buildings, social security, roads, everything. And fascists hate it.

I got to see two military ballad broadsheets at Williams College's Special Collections and I'm already so excited for my trip back there.

The cruelty is the point, as @adamserwer.bsky.social has said:

Two Nazi salutes at CPAC and one at the inauguration. So. When we say they're Nazis, it's not actually debatable.

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.* There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.

I want to say again to academics who are interested in public writing. Look locally. Sure national outlets are good and I do that too, but this kind of visibility in your community can have a real impact.

Two days left to get the open-access PDF of The Author in Early Christian Literature from @cambridgeup.bsky.social! Share it with all your Bible, Classics, and authorship-loving friends! 🏺 doi.org/10.1017/9781...

The current situation with the Pope

Jack is a Nazi and a stochastic terrorist who literally wrote a book published last year called unhumans laying out a plan and call to exterminate anyone left of Hitler because they are not humans. NPR stop doing Nazi revisionism challenge failed yet again.

Imagine that, putting a ketamine fueled billionaire who performatively waves around a chainsaw and Seig Heils in charge of governance is cataclysmic for the economy.

This is how it’s done.

when you roll over for the fascists in charge to keep your federal funding

American Pundits: It was an exuberant and controversial gesture of uncertain significance… Actual Fascists: It’s a Nazi salute.

The little stories are just as important as the big picture. And this is part of why I love historical archaeology, uncovering the little stories to the big pictures we have in the historical record. Also a bunch of little stories can lead to new views of the (many) big picture(s)
