Amazon's changing the way the Kindle works on Tuesday, so if you want to download and de-DRM your books, you have until the 26th to get it done. I wrote a quick how-to, for anyone who is interested: next.content.town/p/kindle-drm...

Remember when Senator Banks attacked a president who wasn’t engaged in litigation against almost half a dozen press outlets and stayed silent against one who was?

“John F. Kelly, his longest-serving White House chief of staff in his first term, has said that Mr. Trump would tell his press aides to publicly repeat something that he had just made up. When Mr. Kelly would object, saying, “but that’s not true,” Mr. Trump would say, “but it sounds good.”

May you be lucky enough to have a leader who loves his country half as much as this man loves his.

Hmm, Tapestry (usetapestry.com) from @iconfactory.bsky.social looks pretty interesting. Not sure I'd want to use it for everything, but the fact that their connectors are open source (github.com/TheIconfacto...) is appealing. Tempted to buy a lifetime license just to support this model.

If you need something awe inspiring to wrap up your weekend and exercise your brain a bit, this is a damn fine choice. If you haven't seen part 1 already, go watch that too. Also, VERY excited to learn that Terence Tao and Tanya Klowden are working on a book on this topic!

Elon’s busy schedule today is claiming astronauts were left in the ISS for political reasons, getting corrected by an ISS astronaut, throwing a fit where he calls the astronaut a slur, then complaining that we should deorbit the ISS

We need more of this. youtu.be/6aIZublUy9I?...

Apropos of nothing, we found this video you should watch youtu.be/n5rd5AXcEgU?...

How can you be a remotely competent analyst without realizing the utterly ridiculous statement you just made?

On the topic of DevOps—and let me just add, DevOps is a set of practices, NOT a team!—it amuses me to realize how long I've gone now never really learning k8s beyond the basics. I've had years now where it just hasn't been worth the time. And I don't see that changing any time soon.

I spent the last few days fighting with a bunch of DevOps chores: migrating repos to GitHub, setting up GitHub Actions, dealing with both Terraform and CDK setups, etc. And while I don't miss doing that every day, it was immensely satisfying being back in the thick of it.

This is a damn fine thread. At least read to the part about privilege and using it when you have it (tl;dr: you really need to, especially in our current world situation).

Is your company resisting Rust adoption? 🤨 At #RustGlobal 2025, @jameseastham.co.uk & I tackled this challenge in our talk: 💡 "Serverless Rust: Your Low-Risk Entry Point to Rust in Production." (Thread 🧵👇)

It’s not just Space X. Musk was able to save Tesla because of a loan from the Dept of Energy. Here he is in 2013 filled with gratitude for the federal agency & the taxpayers who saved his business. From reporting by @puck.news. airmail.news/issues/2025-...

Teachers teach. We need a leaderful movement, and there are leaders all around us.

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

This is an impressive release. I use @deno.land for almost all my personal projects and general tool-building needs these days. And each release makes me feel better about that choice.

Paul Gledhill: "Does anyone have a k8s cluster that's 100% efficient?" <seconds of silence> Someone from the audience: "It's turned off!" Little gems at @manserverless.bsky.social

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down. For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now Meanwhile...

“You know, I’m a very smart guy. I have a very good brain. My two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. Not just smart, but genius - a stable genius at that!”

🦋 The Vice President goes to Munich but refuses to meet with the German Chancellor Lectures Europe on 'free speech' and then meets with Musk's Nazi pals the AfD instead Germany is arguably the most powerful nation in Europe and its Leader gets shunned by America It's an international disgrace 🦋

I wish the realization of the truth of this didn't make me want to just curl into a fetal position and cry.

For all those questioning the "fake applicants" conversations on LinkedIn and elsewhere. This is real.

The Stonewall Inn released a response to the National Parks Service removing the word transgender from the park outside of the Inn. A great reminder that we have to look after each other

She was confirmed nine days ago, that's a pretty sweet speedrun into full-blown corruption, not even a full Scaramucci

If I could bring myself to feel safe at an indoor show, I'd absolutely be considering a drive up to Portland in April.

All these unknown number calls I'm getting from Colorado area codes since I started as Director of Engineering at a CO-based company MUST be entirely coincidental, right? I'm sure it bears no relationship to the large number of emails I've gotten from companies offering their services.

Why would the New York Times call this prosecutor, who was both appointed by Trump and who refused to participate in his bribery, “ambitious?“ Lots of words come to mind, like “integrity“ & “ethics.“ But “ambitious“ is trashing her. NY Times, your bias is showing. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/n...

The CFPB is one of the American people’s best defenses against waste, fraud, and abuse. Demolishing it will, of course, lead to more waste, fraud, and abuse.

Here’s what happens: * whichever army tries to remove all Palestinians from Gaza will be attacked and have to shoot and kill people, and will lose people in the process * anything built in Gaza will be viewed as a symbol of oppression and will be attacked and bombed

Today marks one year since our little gentleman soulmate Harvey passed away. I miss him so terribly every day. I finally added a photo of him as the thumbnail pic for the playlist I made for him when he was dying. I couldn’t bear to choose before now. 😭💔🐾 youtube.com/playlist?lis...

It's been a year since we said goodbye to one of the most precious little angels I've ever had the joy of knowing. Thank you, @holyspacemonkey.bsky.social, for putting together this playlist and post. youtube.com/post/Ugkxe89...
