The rarely photographed but always beautiful Edie, whom I rescued from a North Melbourne shelter back in 2013. Now 15, and still so very sweet*. My love. *could kill us all in a single swipe

Sydney is Endnote Melbourne is Zotero Brisbane is Mendeley Adelaide is Paperpile Perth is Refworks Hobart is manual referencing

If memory serves*: Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning / blue sky at night, day. *it does not. Still, perty though.

On a scale of 1-10 how tired am I? A. I just emailed ‘View Student’ to ask them where their assignment was.

Is it too late to throw my hat in the ring for Clark? 😉😫

Happy Friday everyone 🥹

In the shower this morning I managed to punch myself in the face and in so doing opened it up nicely. Lots of blood. That I have lived as long as I have remains a mystery for the ages.

I know we desperately need rain. But do we need all the rain, all at once? And an Eastern Shore, surely we need that too.

I know there are countless charities you can give money to, but if you're in the #Hobart /Southern Tasmania region please consider giving to the Hobart Woman's Shelter. They (shockingly) have to turn away 8 out of 10 women and children seeking assistance. hobartws.org.au/donate/

“We are at all a time high in all things cephalopodic.“ - I love puns, even obscure ones like this. A drink on me to the first who can name it up. @hnetreviews.bsky.social #envhistory

I don’t write many reviews, but this was a lovely book to engage with.

Check out @tobyjuliff.bsky.social's review of ‪@dannastaaf.bsky.social‬'s "The Lives of Octopuses and Their Relatives: A Natural History of Cephalopods," published in 2023 by @princetonupress.bsky.social; review now available @hnetreviews.bsky.social #envhist #envhum 🐙 www.h-net.org/reviews/show...

Time to re-introduce myself. I’m an art historian & curator based in lutruwita. Particular interests in env. humanities, m art & ecology, energy landscapes, southern oceans, & extinction. Sometimes all at the same time. #environmentalhumanities #extinction #energylandscapes #art #globalsouth

SAVE THE DATE #envhist and #envhum scholars of extraction and extractive practices as part of my @britishacademy.bsky.social Visiting Fellowship at the @uobrisceh.bsky.social I will be organising a workshop on 6-7 November 2025! Call will be out this summer!

The wonderful Dr Jaye Early has just published a wonderful book with @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social everything you wanted to know about late-Foucault, confessional forms, and video art. He was interviewed about it a few days ago for @newbooksnetwork.bsky.social and it’s now up and worth a listen

I was asked for a new headshot for a thing I’m doing but only had my phone to hand. This is not good news. I do not photograph well. This was the best one.

Five years on form COVID lockdown and WFH lunches are still pretty much sharing a bowl of cereal with a cat.

When I said there should be fewer billionaires in the world, global economic collapse wasn’t what I was hoping for.

It will come as no surprise to anyone who has seen my desktop - “poor digital hygiene” was a phrase I was introduced to recently - but my physical life is sadly much the same. Egads I am a disgrace. And not proud of it either. I hope I am not a clichéd academic. But oh for time to sort.

After a frustrating couple of hours in the garden I headed down to the lovely Lost Captain with my laptop, fully intending to complete some marking with a lemonade by the river. But my mobile provider has let me down, so wine and food it is. As you can see, I’m devastated.

I headed down to the Huon to tend the garden today, but gosh it’s so dry. The lawn is a mess. So is now the time to go lawnless and native? I think it might. Here’s hoping the right sort of rain arrives soon.

Apologies for the thirst trap selfie, but I figure it’s Friday and you deserve a treat. Delighted to end the week with a lovely sauna down at Taroona beach with Elsewhere Sauna who are there every Friday-Sunday for a while. Reminds me of the terrific summer I had in Finland last year.

I’m seeing a lot of people blame the Monash University Museum of Art for the decision to postpone an exhibition featuring Khaled Sabsabi. The Museum didn’t make this decision and the staff are devastated. The Museum was ordered to pull the show by Monash Vice-Chancellor Sharon Pickering.

Very much looking forward to this

I regret it now, but I’ve been looking at what LibGen has gleaned* of my academic work. My output is modest (I have plenty to be modest about), but it’s at least 3 high profile journal articles and 3 book chapters [all Routledge]. And there may be more! *nicked, stolen, pinched #libgen

Week 4. Not possible.
