Once towards the end, he goes “he would bring his amps in for repair. You know, that guy with the Cowboy song.” Who? “You know. Played in Huntington Beach all the time.” Need more. “You know, he was always on the Smothers Brothers.” Glen Campbell? “YEAH!” You fixed amps for Glen Campbell?!? 😳

It’s a running joke that my dad would often respond to a revelation about some story from his life with the same answer. Upon discovering that dad had helped build Disneyland, his answer was “oh yeah… Have I never told you that?“ Same answer when I learned he had tech that went in the Saturn V etc

I went to a family gathering over the weekend, and was sent home with some photos from my aunt and uncle’s house. I had never seen many of them. I think this is in my dad and uncle Frank’s shop in Santa Ana, CA in the late 50s. They installed the 1st tanks and lines along Main St for Disneyland.

Appreciate you sharing your story as well. Not long after my dad passed, I thought “he would want me to get a picture with that Lombardi trophy”. I was grateful he got to see the local teams win some hardware before he left us.

The seats were incredible. We were near the front of the left field section by the foul pole. When Alex Gordon made an incredible catch and crashed full speed into the outfield wall scoreboard, my dad texted “did you see that?” I replied “we HEARD it!”

6/? What didn’t dawn on me until later was… dad never asked how much the tickets were going to cost. He was really generous like that. And very humble about it. I’m not sure we’ll ever know how many people he tried to help while he was here. I miss him. So… there you go.

5/? A friend was trying to sell two tickets. We’d already laid out a lot of money, and I was having tension with the growing numbers in my head. I forgot dad was probably listening. When I got upstairs, he said “call him back and tell him you’ll take the tickets - you should be there”.

4/? Opportunities kept opening for us to attend home playoff games. All from people we’d known for years, who generously wanted to help us be there. I think the Royals were on the road, and what became the last game of the 2014 ALCS was coming up. I took a call in their house…

3/? Towards the end, both Parental’s care levels increased. I found myself over there more and more, helping out where I could. Candice & I were fortunate to be at every home game during the 2014 Royals perfect 8–0 playoff run. The events leading up to the final game of the 2014 ALCS is special.

2/? My dad‘s office was at the top of the stairs in their house. You’d swear he could see and hear everything that went on from his desk. If you were out of line, you could bank on hearing his voice or seeing his face peek around the top of those stairs. But, it was easy to forget…

1/? I’ve been a diehard Royals fan since the mid-1970s. Mi Madre tells stories of me reading her articles from the KC sports pages when I was maybe five years old. She recalled the only word she had to help me with was “cardiologist”. When you’re a fan that long, people recognize & remember.

Today is the first Father’s Day without either of the fathers, and it is really kicking my backside. The last year or so before he passed, my wife’s dad gave me a baseball he got from the game Nolan Ryan got his 3000 strikeout. I’ll probably post a story about my dad, since I’ve been missing him.

Nice work, Royals. Really. Great effort.

Got a call that Mini‘s clay paw print is to pick up from the vet. I will go through the ritual of bringing them all the extra food and medications to see if they can pay them forward. Just hard.

A lot of Mini’s presence in our home will go to the curb tonight. My feels are like a speed bag.

That’s enough Royals. You guys should be embarrassed. Over to Murderbot.

Yeah, maybe don’t talk about “terrible effort” Ryno, when the team that employs you just walked the bases loaded and went down 4-2 to the team with 20 wins.

Losing to the White Sox should count as 2 losses.

Remember when the Royals were good at stealing bases and baserunning? That was fun.
